Doubtful. My close friend flies the LC-130 ski plane and he's been many times. Never mentioned anything strange going on there when I asked.

They tend to stage their supplies in New Zealand and fly to McMurdo as the main landing site. But they do drop supplies for many other sites and sometimes have to perform emergency extractions when people are injured and very sick.
He's been to both poles several times. Other than penguins, giant snow-cat transportation vehicles and scientific ice coring facilities, nothing too exciting.
