So I had Covid about 4 months ago. Did all the vitamins, minerals, supplements, etc. I got over it in about a week. Wasn't the worst, wasn't the least cold/flu I've ever experienced. FF to about a month ago. My morning commute takes me very close to the shore of the Florida Keys. We had an unusual high tide that seemed to last for a week, or it seemed that the tide lined up to my passing every morning to be very high. Then I drove past low tide, and it was the most intense nastiness I've ever smelled from the ocean.
I asked around at work and got tepid responses. Everyone was "meh" about the smell. Cue the next several days. Suddenly I started smelling that swamp smell everywhere! I take a shit, there it is. I cook bacon, same smell. Beef. Pork. Chicken. I'm now hyper sensitive to the actual swamp smell that I'm the only one who notices it in a group.
The condition I have is called parosmia. I've researched that it can go away if I train my brain to remember what smells are supposed to smell like. Apparently the virus destroys smell receptors in the brain and when they grow back, they don't grow exactly how they used to be.
I'm writing this post for anyone who is suffering from this and thinks they're going crazy like I once thought. I don't think my sense of smell will ever be the same. Luckily for me though, it is not as bad as other people are saying. I can still eat bacon. It's like in the Matrix where the kid is bending the spoon. Don't think that the bacon is sour, instead, think that the bacon is not there at all.
You need to rinse your sinuses with saline and tea tree oil. Over thirty years ago I had a bad sinus infection and it smelled really bad, exactly as you described. It returns now and then but I rinse it out at the slightest hint of smell and it goes away You’ll probably have to rinse at least three times a day for two weeks before it improves. Once you get rid of it, subsequent bouts can be eradicated quickly.
Also when I do get flare ups I can’t smell anything even the shampoo and conditioner in the shower have no smell. Only thing I can smell is that decomposed fish smell when I bend over or move my head at certain angles.
No sense of taste or smell, it’s been 14 months since catching it.
I lost all sense of smell and could change the cat's litterbox without even a whiff of bad smell. Never happened before.
Now it is coming back. I can smell some very strong smells, but not others. I expect a full recovery eventually.
good thing about zinc is that it also helps keep ones gonads healthy. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8875519/
SINUSITIS (loss of taste and smell) has ALWAYS been a symptom of the common cold, flu or sinus infection. The media simply rebranded the symptom the same way they rebranded the common flu as COVID-19™️
This is 100 percent not the same thing. Name 1 virus or illness that makes it so your sense of smell actually CHANGES after 4 months. I went from loss of smell and taste, to muted taste and smell to what I have now, everything smells and tastes like a rotting dead animal. I had covid 4 months ago.
Different people can have different symptoms/reactions to the same virus. This isn’t new.
But the same person wouldn't have different symptoms for the same virus. I've gotten the flu like 4 times in my life and its always been the same. Except this time.. very very different. None of the typical stuff and only new stuff
Same person can absolutely have different symptoms for the same virus. This is virology 101. You could of had a “very very” different strain of the flu. You don’t know, and neither do the tests.
Thats another virus. a different strain. okay wanna play that game? corona virus is a new lab modified strain of the flu. what causes all the shit i said. now what? nothing changes. its still new, still has things ive never experienced before, still need to take zink etc. I really dont understand why people feel the need to twist and bend every single thing in life into sometimes else even when the outcome is the same. because the truth is we will NEVER know for a fact whats really going on if viruses are even real, if this is just a strain of the flu, if this is novel, or if this is all made up and i am one of many many bots in a global conspiracy. dude you ever had a cold or flu before? NOPE you haven't its just a strain of pinkeye and you just experience different symptoms thats all. flu has only been around for a couple hundred years. its not real it is actually pink eye. you dont see how difficult it is to argue with nonsense like this?
already take it both daily.
Engrams.
I had it and couldn't even smell Pinesol or bleach for a week straight. Never like a cold, where there would be muted smells and tastes. This instead was complete loss. The taste came back after the 7 days but it was muted a week more. The smell came back after a month or so. I took matcha tea (quercetin and EGCG source) with 2 pieces of 70% dark chocolate (zinc source) every morning, was outside in the sunlight, and walked long distances every night, too.
It’s been long known that the flu can do crazy things with your taste and smell too (article from 1988):

so true, the covid lies piggy back off of that fact.
Yes, I have parosmia now after COVID. It's horrible. I can only eat bread with butter and cheese quesadilla's at the moment. Or certain sweet things.Anything else tastes rancid. I pray it goes back to normal.
For me right now, almost everything smells and tastes almost like dead and rotting animal. Or some nasty oil type taste.i had covid about 4 months ago.
already take it daily
My sense of taste/smell were numbed for about a month then came back slowly. Most things are as I remember except fresh cut onions have a weird smell to them but no longer sting my eyes.
Just had the coof same thing here can’t be in the house when my wife is cooking
Yeah cooking times are pretty bad for me as well.
I had it really friggen bad, and it lingered in my lungs for like a year and a half. The pain in my left lung and coughing fits only went away after a few times using ivermectin.
As to the taste all I remember is that things tasted weird, I didnt lose my sense of taste but it was fucked up. I love diet pepsi and I remember it tasting sour and like it was gone bad or something. I dont remember the smell part but everything tasted weird. Gross actually. But that all went back to normal.
Had Covid back in August, lost taste and smell for a week and a half. The only thing that smells funny to me right now is Tuna. It's smells like fish, ass, and BO all mixed together.
Your tuna smells like Barack Obama?
I'd say with regards to that, Michael Obamas ding dong.
I had this crap the first two weeks in August. Worst synthetic, unnatural flu I ever had in my life. I’m alive and well and allowed my immune system to take care of it along with IVM and HCQ. I didn’t get my taste/smell back till mid October. I drank a ton of water and ate the spiciest foods I could and gradually got it back. Oddly enough I think there are a couple of “bland” spots on my tongue. It’s weird it lasted that long. I’ve had this with sinus infections before but not like this.
Happened to me for about ten days. Smelled like a moldy sour dish rag !!
I had covid about 4 months go. I lost taste and smell but they slowly returned to 80-90%. For Christmas my daughter made 5 Onion soup which I was looking forward to but I couldn't taste the onion at all. Some family couldn't stand the onion smell and had to sit outside. This is crazy. I will have to check if there is a homeopathic for this. My smell seems okay but taste is gone.
I am taking the whole zinc, quercetin c protocol from FLCC as well as a multitude of other things. It's funny because I regained smell and taste but in the last week or so just the taste went on a vacation, since some new family came down with covid or the "flu". So more zinc is a viable option.
Colchicum 30 or 200 for distorted, metallic taste. Others are China, Pulsatilla, Nux vomica 200 or Sanguinari. Check your mateia medica to see best match.
Will do...thanks just bought some colchinum for husband's gout! Have the others...will check my good old faithful materia medica! During the family gathering I got a leg cramp and I popped a Hyland's leg cramp tablet and some of the family not raised on homeopathy were amazed that something could work so quickly. My grandson was taking influenza cause he was not feeling well and then got a nosebleed so I gave him phosphorus to stop the bleeding... it is very satisfying to me to be able to use homeopathy...it is so fast acting and easy if you use the right remedies... unfortunately some of the kids raised on homeopathics haven't taken the time and effort to continue in that discipline. You can take a horse to the trough but you can't make them drink. I use muscle response testing which helps me fine tune the right remedy when there are a few good ones to choose from. That is very helpful. It is great to know there are fellow homeopaths on this site. I recently stocked up on sarracenia purpurea from India...waiting for delivery.
I found sarracenia purpurea at Hahnemann Labs. Love Joette Calabrese, learning so much through her.
I like her too. She is very good. I learned about homeopathics in the early 80's. Made my own remedies from mother tinctures then later bought kits or singles from different companies. Raised 5 kids with alternative healthcare including homeopathy. I read a lot of Dana UIlman but have many other good books. Of course my materia medica is worth it's weight in gold. have never bought from Hahnemann Labs...will have to see what they have. Thanks for sharing.
Are you male or female? The reason I ask is that I just heard from someone I know, that the smell thing apparently attacks more females than males. No idea if that's true ...
I'm male. I identify as male. You may address me as he/him. Maybe males tend to be more quiet about it?
People who lost taste and smell that I personally know include 2 young males and 2 females in their 50s.
I had COVID - got it from my (unfortunately vaxxed) wife. Hers lasted 3 weeks, mine 1.5 days. I have taken B,C,D vits for over 15 years and added zinc and quercetin in early 2020. I had a 103.9 fever for about 12 hours, a bad headache, and the brain fog was awful. If it wasn't for the brain fog I would've kept working (I WFH). I also completely lost my sense of smell for 6 weeks (but not taste). I am also still a pure-blood, and looking forward to the blood auctions someday :)
Fortunately I have about 100 different concentrated vape flavorings I bought over the years, before I settled down on one flavor I really like. I started using the flavorings several times a day by putting a few drops on the top of my hand, rubbing it around a little, then trying to smell the scent while inhaling deeply through my nose. After a few days I could actually detect a few of them that were very strong (like lemon or coffee). After a few weeks I could smell most of them and at the 6 week point I could smell pretty much everything (at least everything I knew that was present).
I had read somewhere that if you tried to retrain your brain to recognize smells that you already know it helps to repair the damage.
I did not have the nasty smells but my wife did. I actually got her flowers with some roses in the bunch and she said they smelled like crap. Took her longer to get her sense of smell back too.
Give that a try. Not necessarily vape flavorings unless you have them already, but find a number of things you know and use them. Maybe spaghetti sauce, lemon juice, milk, or something you are used to. Bacon should work but I suspect it will stink for a while, probably due to the grease. YMMV.
Good luck.
Ha! That's one of the things I consider a blessing from covid. I was a reformed smoker turned vaper and struggled with it for years. I would unsuccessfully try to quit many many times with spotty luck. Covid helped me to quit vaping and haven't touched it since. Such a relief to be free from smoking/vaping!
I know this doesn't have anything to do with Q but I feel like someone out there has this and I want them to know they are not alone!
I think I had Covid but not a 100% sure I do not test/do doctors nor vaccines at least not in over 10 years. I say this because I felt a bit off which is unusual to find my best friend's good friend and wife had a NASTY case of COVID (so they were told by doc), they never were hospitalized but were hurting for a week. Do NOT think in "singulars" THINK in HYDRA/SPECTRE / THE WEB terms MEANING nothing going on has singular purpose. I will attempt to communicate MY thoughts. Mostly COVID is a fear plandemic propaganda campaign HOWEVER I do truly believe there IS a Weaponized dangerous bio weaponized variant that is in fact lethal. Remember NOW every Diagnosis or "death" is COVID 19. Who else is aware that almost every COVID diagnosis/"treatment" in MOST states puts over 30K in hospital/HC systems pockets REGARDLESS of outcome? But this has ZERO to do with "profit" control of spreading fear right lol :)? It is about a global "pandemic" with an OVER 95% SURVIVAL rate.
If it's any consolation, that rotting seaweed smell overwhelmed me when I first encountered it.
This was many years before covid and it stuck with me for years. Exactly as you described.
It will pass.
I had and got over Covid. My smell/taste completely disappeared during the worst of it and it was nothing like having clogged sinuses where your smell/taste is muffled but you still have a vague awareness its there. This just deadass made eating unpleasant because it was just different tasteless textures. When my smell and taste returned, they were muted and scrambled. Everything had a weird sweet/rotting smell for a couple of weeks to the point I hated being around food.
It's all mostly gone back to normal now a few months later, though some smells still register with that rotting after-tone that didn't before.

Heard of people losing their smell and taste early on OG Wuhan, at some point someone had a way to "train your senses back", didn't look further into on how it was done though.
Many things smelled like gasoline or car exhaust for a few months after I was sick. Really strange, I read about parosmia and tried remembering smells and I think it helped.
My family and I had Covid in March of 2020. I lost my sense of smell and taste for about 6 weeks and recovered completely. My 19 year old son had just a few symptoms, but despises certain smells like garlic ever since. My husband never fully recovered. He could not smell and taste, after several weeks everything smelled burned. He tried to train his senses by smelling things like lemons, coffee etc. but didn't really succeed. He can not drink red wine any longer because of the weird taste and had to switch to white wine, lol.
All these people in this thread talking like the tests are accurate. “I had covid...”
Pfft smh.
Mine was gone for about 3 weeks but now it’s like I have a more sensitive sense of smell. Taste is about the same as it was pre-Covid
My senses returned to normal, but had horrible post infection mucus is my respiratory system. Took some NAC and recovered. Was several months.
Only thing I could stomach both times I had it was Campbell chicken noodle, pea soup and tuna and noodles with peas. Everything else was highly gross and hurl
It's not your own breath. The smell and taste is triggered by fragrance. I could walk into a bath and body works store and perfume isle and get the most intense smell of dead and rotting animal.
I tried smelling one of Gwyneth Paltrow's "My Vagina" candles, but it still smelled like rotting animals.
Not sure if I had Covid at the time, or my sense of smell was accurate.
Haha
Jeez that would make a monk out of me!
I take zinc daily. so that must not be it.
Damn, well im just unlucky then lol
You have a great immune system probobly. I never stopped traveling and going on flights (I fly twice a month) it took me over a year to get it, and thats me hanging out woth people with it. But once I actually got it. It wasn't a big deal but the taste and smell loss and then taste and smell changes are very very annoying.
Think of it this way. There is something spreading that causes very weird symptoms. (Like smelling dead animals when you sniff bacon or flowers, candles, etc.) I give two shits what it actually is, I am giving it a name. Its called Covid.
It’s been long known that the flu can do crazy things with your taste and smell too (article from 1988):
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1988-02-21-mn-44059-story.html
I have never had the flu do this to me. Plus I could flip your argument and say the flu doesn't exist ots just a cold.
Exactly. No test can identify it, but we “KNOW” we had it cause “muh smell and taste got messed up.”
<eyeroll>
Meanwhile, influenza strains have been monkeying with our olfactory senses for a long time:
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1988-02-21-mn-44059-story.html
Too many people that I know personally to dismiss it to their imaginations. One is a ER nurse who permanently has lost her smell and taste for over a year.
About it being isolated, have you ever considered that maybe they have, but do not want to release the information? (proving lab-made)
You've already had it and was asymptomatic, not knowing you had it... and now are immune so you can't.
Because your mind is too powerful. You’re too evolved as a person to get it. Only low consciousness people can get it. I’ve flown all over the world and been in hustle and bustle everywhere and never gotten it, because I’m not a fog-minded pussy.
Oral health is okay, couple of cracked toofs but the bacterias are all getting along.
