Keller, TX here.
Would not recommend Dallas at all but if you start looking around at suburbs in DFW you'll be fine. I love living here but would not want to live in Dallas city proper at all
Texan here. I hear Florida is AMAZING
I’m with karma girl, lifetime Dallas native, looking for the jungle exit.
Fort Lauderdale. It's closer to the ocean than Dallas!
Depending on you prefer tornados ice storms to hurricanes and humid heat with snakes and gators I’m in south Texas but frequently visit both-/
I used to live in Brownsville. Loved it there. The valley was a great place and we miss Texas.
DFW here. I’d opt for a suburb of Dallas or Fort Worth. Choose wisely, because some lean more liberal than others.
Lifelong Texan here. Almost any suburb in Tx is worth investigating. The big cities are soros funded up and coming liberal shit-holes.
Agree. For example, Richardson has turned into a liberal shithole suburb of Dallas.
Same here in Florida. It's one reason why I live in Volusia County.
What do you know about Weatherford, if anything? Friends moved there last year. we're contmeplating a move.
Weatherford is still pretty conservative, but growing fast. You can also check out more rural suburbs of Weatherford like Aledo (more pricy) and Annetta.
I have a winter home in the Rio Grande Valley. Have to drive through/around Dallas to get there.
If you have any peace of mind, it will be ruined by the traffic in the DFW/FW metroplex. Absolutely STUNNING how much construction goes on, and on, and on and on...
Haven't been to Lauderdale for years, so it might be as bad.
Drive well!
From FL but lived in Texas a while. I say Dallas- centralized in US and South FL will always be a bit 'uppity' to me.
Im in Fort Lauderdale. Florida is awesome. I’d try to find a place in Palm Beach county, though...I think it’s nicer, plus closer to the winter White House.
Palm Beach is worse politically than Ft Lauderdale, and Ft Lauderdale is fooked politically. All of S.FL is.
You should move to Volusia County. You'd love it here.
Good call...I wouldn’t mind that at all.
Fort Lauderdale......home of the swimming hall of fame...
Both are liberal shit holes. Crime rates in DFW and S.Fl are about the same. So are voting patterns/habits. I have a cousin who lives in DFW area, and she hates it. She a Dem, also, if that tells you anything. The only reason why she won't move back to FL is because of her mom, my aunt.
If you want to move to FL, I suggest moving to Volusia County, FL, but work in Orlando, specifically, move to the DeLand area. It's quiet, not much crime, schools are good there, and housing is about the cheapest in the county there. I've lived in this are off and on for the last 18 yrs, since I got out the Navy. Moved around a little bit during that time, but this area always brought me back b cause if the people, the atmosphere, and the general based-ness of W.Volusia. Where I live, it's super quiet, except for the nightly firearms training my neighbors get up to. It's music to my ears and helps my kids feel safer knowing most of our neighbors are armed to the teeth and are willing to defend our area from the miscreants.
The wages are better in Volusia County, but the traffic sucks travelling to Orlando area for work, just not as bad as S.FL. The tax rates are better in Volusia County, the schools are better, housing prices cheaper, gas is cheaper, hell, everything's cheaper in Volusia County than any other Central FL county except maybe Lake County, and our politicians are mostly Conservatives, except for the school board, but that's gonna be changing come Nov.
I'm telling you, I grew up in Miami in the 70's and 80's. The liberalization of S.FL started then, migrating to the other most populated cities in this State.
FL is still, in my opinion, the BEST state in the Union to live in right now, but every major city and heavily populated county in this state is almost solidly liberal leaning. This includes Miami-Dade, Ft Lauderdale/Broward County, Palm Beach and PB County, Tampa/St Pete (Hillsborough/Pinellas), Jacksonville (Duval County), Tallahassee (St Leon), Orlando Metro area (Orange/Osceola/Seminole counties). These counties/cities have voted Dem for the last 25+ yrs.
Fort Lauderdale has better "scenery" during Spring Break.
If I moved away from Dallas, I would admittedly miss my Mexican food & bbq joints. It’s just not the same anywhere else. When I travel, the first thing I eat when I get back is Tex-mex.
Tampa
All I can say is that the Cowboys suck. They really really do
Always will under jerry. He’s the worst.
Personally I wouldn't go to either, considering I loathe large cities with a burning passion, but you seem kind of passionate about this so I'm guessing you prefer city amenities. Now having said that, all of the "perks" are basically identical. Texas and Florida are so similar financially they're basically twins. You won't really get any more benefit picking one over the other.
So at that point, it's a matter of climate and culture. Dallas actually gets cold beleive it or not. It's only a little south of Oklahoma. Snow is absurdly rare there, but it can, and does get cold enough to warrant a medium thick leather jacket in the winter. As for the culture, well don't expect any cowboys. Dallas is a financial hub, so imagine southern NYC (in fact I believe the NYSE actually considered moving to Dallas in 2020). Lots of suits, hedge funds, financial firms, etc. That being said, they do have a decent amount of entertainment, plus you can go an hour in any direction and find a more stereotypical Texas experience.
Fort Lauderdale is probably closer to Hawaii climate wise. Very tropical, hot, humid, moderate amount of rain, beaches, the Atlantic ocean, etc. Culture wise...... I mean it's Florida, not really sure how to explain that other than bombard you with Florida Man memes.
So at this point it's a matter of do you want to experience cold for the first time in your life, or basically have the same climate?
I’ll definitely opt for a suburb over the city itself. I should have mentioned that in my post. We are agreed in that I also hate large cities.
In terms of climate, I’m not originally from Hawaii. We moved there to start a business which went well until the rona and all the restrictions! Now we’re taking our entrepreneurial skills to a state that won’t shut us down.
Go to Florida
Florida (i live in texas)
