When things like this happens people might demand action, or demand they be taken care of. By spreading this "freeze beyond anyone's control" they might hope people just keep shut or feel helpless and curl of somewhere.

About 8 years ago I was working at a local gin store and we had a client that would buy vast amounts of ammunition, firearms, food storage, and the like. Apparently, he was a Wall street hedge fund type that had moved to the country and hired contractors and was gearing up for something. He looked the part with the sport coat and designer jeans, Ukranian wife on his arm and the high dollar car. The owner told me that this guy had told him what was happening and at the time I wrote if off to boss is a narcissistic blow hard that was angling for more prestige, but maybe. . .
I think he was very much in the inner circle. I know that before 2016 there were a lot of people (professional, higher ups) who expected there would be no elections and the world would go to chaos etc. A lot of people expected Obama would somehow continue a 3rd term through some kind of shenanigans.

There is some risk though that they may freeze my trading account but the best I can is to withdraw periodically to manage it.
