I have quite a bit of paper currency on hand and can attest, there are absolutely none newer than 2017! Talking about green money here, not coins.
Can someone provide the reason for this? I believe I read a commenter on the thread said Trump passed something and could be the reason behind this. I’m very curious as to what all this means. Anyone else noticing this with their money?
ok, so i am a serial optimist, but wouldn't it be great if Trump already changed dollars over to gold/silver backed, and we haven't been told yet?

I remember reading that the date is the last time the currency was updated and not the date it was printed. I'm not sure if it is true but I remembered it because I questioned if it was true.
Yes, I think US currency is printed in "series" and it may be that the most recent is Series 2017. I'm pretty sure the Treasury is still printing currency.
Makes sense too...I wonder if there’s an archive that tells you when new series were introduced? I might have to see if there’s a pattern with the ones I hold and do a little more digging regarding series issues.

Following up on this, after seeing something about it last week, I've gone through a bunch of paper notes with others, just for kicks. Bills are not marked every year, but have always changed with Secretary of the Treasury changes, and start being printed with their names on the year they take office, except for John Snow who is listed as 2003-2006. This may be because the new high security bill was released in 2003 and the next printing with his name was 2004, just conjecture.
Now, nothing for 2021 Yellen. No one I know has seen anything after 2017 A. I've collected $20 bills as below, years (initials of SoT).
2004 (JWS) 2006 (HMP) 2009 (TFG) 2013 (JJL) 2017 & 2017A (STM)
The twenties have not had an A series since 2004 and apparently never before that. Oddly, the 2006 HMP series isn't even listed on the gov site (www bep.gov/currency/serial-numbers). They do list everything through 2017 A. That's it.

Yes, he did!!! He said the Fed's books were taken by the Treasury. People didn't even blink.
When one entity takes/gets/possesses the books of another entity, that's an act of ownership. I use to work for GE. When they bought a company, a huge step was getting their books. They would even announce it. "We have their books."
It should be no stretch to realize that many things have happened that we won't know or understand for decades. And some things we'll never know.
Woah, I never noticed that either until now. I went through my go-bag that has freshly printed bills inside, and not a single one was beyond 2017 either. I topped it off just a couple months ago too.
If my memory serves correct, Trump merged the Federal Reserve into the Treasury back in 2020. Obviously, this didn't happen back in 2017, i'm intrigued to what this may be about.
We get cash out every payday for our “stash.” Been doing it for years. Even with the crisp, new, never been used bills none are newer than 2017. To me, that’s weird. I’m intrigued too.
Are they printing money anymore? Any banking pedes noticing this? There’s got to be a teller or someone who works at a bank on here. You’d think they might have a little knowledge. Or are they kept in the dark too?
The "easy" answer would be that there's just no need to print any more as most US currency is already digital. Now, that still wouldn't make sense just stopping in 2017 all together. They'd still need fresh replacements periodically to replace damaged/highly worn bills.
To me, the easy answer doesn't fit.
It could very well go back to the "rainbow" currency being printed instead, to replace the Fed dollars.

Now, we just wait and see I guess, the answer will come.

The dates on printed notes are the series year, not the printing year. The last time the series was changed was 2017.
I’m pretty sure they’re still printing money. The Federal Reserve website details what bills were ordered printed for 2022. I think another poster was correct in saying the date reflects the last date currency was redesigned.
Makes sense too. I will be keeping my eye out for new ones. I wonder how they distribute the new? Do banks have to order them when they run low? This is all something I never really thought about.
Yes, banks order currency regularly - weekly I think. I imagine the Fed fills some portion of those orders with new currency to get it into circulation.
