I saw the response, I was there. I am a retired airborne infantry from a Stryker Brigade. This sort of stuff is my jam.
No way in hell there were only 5.
When the full story comes out, it will be far different.
I saw the police and federal response. It was squad cars lined up for half a mile on one street. Different jurisdictions. I saw FBI armored vehicles and agents dressed in fatigues. I saw ATF as well. I saw others in suits, and plain clothes chatting amongst each other and diddling on radios.
If I was running that OP, those fatigued ATF were ground level command and control. Like a SSG, or CPT level. The true brass was off site, out of sight.
That leaves up to a battalion size element unaccounted for in plain clothes. That's just ATF / FBI.
That doesn't include the Capitol Police and other departments. The majority of the Capitol police were on the ground in uniform. I don't doubt they had undercover in the crowds. So add another 5-20 from them. I doubt anyone had off that day. (side note: over 150 officers have left the Capitol Police since the Jan 6 protest).
Plot twist. FBI are the oath keepers.

It's my theory that there is at least one person from any level of law enforcement on something as casual as a bowling beer league. 25s-recently retired guys and some women that drink beer and bowl for fun. At least one would probably be working undercover. The police are the standing army the Founders warned us about.
