This was a franchise location and the decision of a single manager. From what I have read in local media the franchise owner has reached out to try and make it right.
This need to be the top comment IMO. I can't imagine there aren't other franchise owners who are still working with mentally disabled individuals & boycotting Wendy's all together is just hurting the local great business owners.
Sure, I could get behind never shopping with this franchise owner/the store the manager for firing them the way they did. Though this should be store /area specific as needed. I haven't dug into this, but the most likely scenario is that a new manager fired this guy & the franchise owner had no idea. The franchise owner having them work for 22 years is unlikely to let an employee like this go without informing the family about issues that have come up that can't be resolved in the store.
So cruel, after 22 years, I can tell you, this was such an important part of this mans life, his routine, his pride and socialization, it wasn't "just a job". Makes me angry, so pissed off. I don't eat there, but I do write very good letters and will be sure that the advocacy networks I know of will hear about this, and there are a lot of them.
they should fire the manager and give the guy his job...after 22 yrs he could do it...and i hope his family files a discrimination lawsuit...ie why Wendies offer him his job back....he should just say naaa thats ok you will finance my retirement ...how do you like me now bitch.....lol
All these fast food burger places suck to me since they quit cooking on grills, and the service has been in decline for a decade or more….
I wont even get started on the food product…
As for the gentleman, its tragic that this is what we have come to expect from manament. But it is .
I mean. Not to be an asshole but if he is physically unable to do the job why should he have the job? Wendy's is a business, not a charity. They have programs for people like this where they can keep busy. If, in fact, he can do the job, he should have no problem at all in getting another one just like it. I don't see the problem. Business's don't owe us anything other than what we pay for. They certainly don't owe anyone a job, regardless of your capability.
And suddenly he can't do it anymore. We all get older. I imagine age affect the mentally handicapped even more than normal people. But it doesn't matter. If this particular Wendy's says he can't do it anymore, then they have that right. If customers are complaining what are they supposed to do? If he can't keep up what are they supposed to do? A hell of a lot more capable people have been fired from a hell of a lot better jobs for less of a reason.
And there you have it. Because corporations use people like rag dolls and throw them away was the whole point. Amazed you guys haven't realized we're all treated less than human. But, for now, I turn their tactics against them. Cancel them, then they feel it.
So what law would you have passed that forces fast food places to hire at least one mentally handicapped person? Are you sure you are even in the right place? Those are communist ideas. No one is being used up and thrown away. He was paid for his services, he was never a slave. Like I said previously, if he still is able to do the work then he will EASILY be able to find a job just like it. What's the problem? Or is your main concern his feelings were hurt? You want to know a secret? They just want to be treated like everyone else. No more. Nor less. Yes, it sucks to be fired. But welcome to how the real world is. NO ONE deserves a job. You have to earn it.
I never said any of that you stupid shill. I pointed out the lack of compassion that any decent human being could see. I would not have ever hired him if his performance was gonna be an issue and I bet the fuckers made shit tons of extra money and brownie points because people came there because they loved seeing him and the company doing a GOOD DEED. Open your heart up fool. Then open your mind to the fact he was used. I bet there's publicity somewhere from it.
So sad. I hope the corporate office steps in and finds a better location for him. The manager of that location should know that mentally and physically challenged people are just that and function in different ways. He may not have worked as quickly but I bet he brought a positive vibe to the team. Tell me that the manager couldn’t have made accommodations. I bet he functioned as quickly as many of our entitled youth do today, who feel they are doing the job a favor by being there. I bet that man was reliable too. Maybe find a job at Hobby Lobby or Chik Fil A. Many grocery stores too are looking for help. All the fast food places are owned by Vanguard and Black Rock at the top. They do not make quality food and are in the business to cause medical issues.
Did the manager really say what the article claims or is that coming from the sister.
May be unpopular but I don't think Wendy's did anything wrong. If a person is working for a company and not meeting the needs of the company, then it is reasonable to fire them. We only have 1 side of the story. And in my opinion, that is one side too many, this shouldn't have even been picked up by GWP. Leave it on Facebook where it belonged.
While Im sure you mean well NanaQ no company is obligated to keep an empolyee who might not be profitable. This participation trophy mentality is a large reason we are where we are today, and probably broke half of the Millennial generation. The family said the poor guy didnt even understand what being fired meant....Not sure a company should be shamed into keeping an employee with this level of ability for feels.
you say that like its a slur, but i love homemaking. I also dont think women working benefits society, as you can see by inflation, the divorce rate, and women's mental health. but at least im not a hypocrite :)
Absolutely no slur intended. While I agree homemaking shoud be loved by those who choose to do so. Women in the workplace absolutely benefits society. In some cases the man is the homemaker and that's fine too. And you may be right about the disabled working nit benefiting society, but it sure does help the disabled. Although I had a down syndrome guy at the grocery store, he was there for 30+ years. Everyone knew him by name and he always got a laugh and a smile out of everybody. That there is quite a benefit to society. BTW. I noticed we have similar usernames. Do you have a fast Nova?
nitrox is nitrogen enriched oxygen used for scuba diving :) I also think employers have the right to hire and fire whoever they want, for any reason, without the governments intervention. as far as women working, we can agree to disagree lol
It does benefit society when every able bodied person works to the best of their ability. The man held the job for 22 years, that means (at a minimum) he paid taxes and drew wages that were spent in his community.
We have enough basement dwelling young people in this country who expect someone else to provide for them.
see this is why I like gaw, no one will debate with me on twitter and yt has me shadowbanned. just for some context, i worked for several years as a java developer making 50k a year. my husband is a mechanic, we're not rich but i am a minimalist. all the things women spend money on, like makeup, shoes, cell phone, lawn service, drinks at bars, extra car payment, insurance and gas, manicures, starbuks, hair salon, all those useless service industries as I was talking about, we just dont spend money on. the problem is we outsourced all our production to other countries, we need more factory jobs here

Too late

Wendy's is disgusting. Easy boycott.
He is led to believe he's retired. I hope he decides to work somewhere else.
I hope offers come in.
NO WENDY'S

Done! I’m wondering if the manager was some 19 year old given the title of manager for a little over minimum wage for a set salary with no OT.
All fast food is garbage food. It's just as bad as the "vaccines".
Could have just let the man retire. Manager will pay his dues eventually

Have they not hired any hoodrats? He probably works circles around them.

I am with you on this.
Tenure shouldn't matter over performance. If he was performing, I am sure he would have kept his job.
He did it 22 years ffs.
And suddenly he can't do it anymore. We all get older. I imagine age affect the mentally handicapped even more than normal people. But it doesn't matter. Finally, someone who gets it. Thanks.

Go ahead and downdoot folks.
If he was good enough 22 years, they could have acted like decent human beings about it.
ima be honest, disabled people working doesnt benefit society very much
It takes them off the welfare rolls.
companies get tax breaks for hiring them, you're still paying the salary
Doesn't matter. It gives them self respect. Something a lot of people need.
Bet you money he doesn't even have a job.
you say that like its a slur, but i love homemaking. I also dont think women working benefits society, as you can see by inflation, the divorce rate, and women's mental health. but at least im not a hypocrite :)

You don’t benefit society and from the “ima” term are incapable of using proper English. I suppose you also think he should have been aborted?
guess i struck a nerve lol, i like how you use red herring and attack my grammar instead of the actual argument
I have a down syndrome friend who owned a coffee shop til hurricane Michael. She's great.
Ok you go work at wendy's then
why would I do that? I am directly opposed to service industry, I work in my own kitchen and me and my husband are healthier for it
see this is why I like gaw, no one will debate with me on twitter and yt has me shadowbanned. just for some context, i worked for several years as a java developer making 50k a year. my husband is a mechanic, we're not rich but i am a minimalist. all the things women spend money on, like makeup, shoes, cell phone, lawn service, drinks at bars, extra car payment, insurance and gas, manicures, starbuks, hair salon, all those useless service industries as I was talking about, we just dont spend money on. the problem is we outsourced all our production to other countries, we need more factory jobs here
