Shower thought:
JFK, Reagan and Trump were all struggling against the cabal. JFK made his intentions clear to the public and he paid the ultimate price. Reading between the lines; Reagan hinted at what was going on and the future consequences of not correcting our course.
Growing up during that era, there was a lot of news about Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative or "Star Wars" program. The plan was to have armed US satellites orbiting earth ready to obliterate any inbound nukes (or anyone) that dared attack us. I assume that the project was already well underway when he announced it on March 23, 1983.
"I call upon the scientific community in this country, those who gave us nuclear weapons, to turn their great talents to the cause of mankind and world peace, to give us the means of rendering these nuclear weapons impotent and obsolete"
The Space Shuttle was a VERY popular NASA success at the same time and the payloads were occasionally "classified" since nearly every launch was a big deal and televised.
Since we sorta know how the cabal operates, it's possible that they knew of "Star Wars" in addition to Reagan's other plans and had him shot, and maybe even had someone sabotage the Space Shuttle Challenger. Doing so would derail the means to install a weapon system so advanced (for the era) that the any faction of the cabal could be evaporated at any moment.

Hints the Space program under Reagan may have been even more elaborate and expansive then what was public knowledge. So much so that not even Reagan knew the details Example from Reagans Diary. June 6, 1985.

Max crew, according to public knowledge at any rate, of the NASA shuttles was 8. By June 1985 we had 4 confirmed functional Shuttles. And 1 Scheduled for itβs maiden launch in October of that year. Thatβs 40 people total.
Granted context for the entry is for the most part lacking. They could have been referring to in the event of an emergency they could theoretically throw together enough shuttles to get that many people into orbit or something similar. But the wording seems to indicate they had the ability to do so at anytime in the present tense.
Rods from God-- 20 feet long, by 1 Ft wide, Tungsten Steel Rods dropped from a distance far enough to become supersonic....
Now, the Military has decided to go with 1/2 sized Rods....
Probably have Cameras to enhance guidance, and a propellant to enhance speed....
Not Nukes, which are against many treaties, but just as effective, without the fallout....
Some propellant would be needed, an object doesn't simply de-orbit because you let go of it otherwise the rod would just keep orbiting alongside the satellite.
Yes, they did have a propellant, but now consider that same amount of Force, pushing something of half size, for double the time.....
And add in our drone tech where we can steer it and hit specific targets with much better accuracy.....
Whatever type of propulsion would also push the craft launching it, so, would have to have it's own propulsion after being dropped or it would just follow along...
There's a reason hard sci-fi features a lot of KKV's (kinetic kill vehicles), and that reason is that Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest son of a bitch in space!
Mass Effect haha!

You were in Reagan's cabinet?
Were you u/PepeSee??
The crew portion of the shuttle was rather small, perhaps 300 people could fit in a passenger module inside the cargo bay. The shuttle was designed to be able to bring satellites back down to Earth as per the DOD and it was proposed to bring the Hubble Space Telescope back down as a museum piece rather than simply de-orbiting and burning up.

There's no way you could fit 300 people in there.
Even if you removed all the hardware and crammed em' in like sardines.
Well actually if you literally crammed them in like sardines you might get 300 people in there.
If you let your human resources suck on space dust while they surf the back of the bus you won't be able to extract any value out of them when you get to SpaceLand - which is big bad.
OSHA is gonna have a fit.
They were just fine with suffocating kids and the elderly all over the whole country.
There were modules they could fit into the cargo bays that were like the C-5 cargo bay jump seats for soldiers that held 60-65, 32 on one side and 33 on the other from what I understand. They could fit 10 (at least) people inside the crew cabin and there were 4 shuttles plus the Enterprise test vehicle (unclear if it was space capable). So the math is 4 x 65 = 260 + 40 = 300 assuming 4 space-capable vehicles.
I believe there are other "space vehicles" we do not have details on yet.
Peggy Hill: I am going to scare my students, exactly the way President Reagan scared hundreds of millions of Russians with his Star Wars death beam.
