I absolutely hate the amount of H1Bs out there and how they've driven down wages. I get a ton of these head hunters messaging me and when I tell them I grew up in America and a US citizen and I need no sponsorship they still try to lowball a position by 30-50k
It's the side of illegal immigration that most of America turns a blind eye to
I used to be a tech recruiter.
The whole H1B thing is the most messed up program ever.
Aside from it taking away from American opportunities in the tech field. It's basically corporate kidnaping. The sponsor company basically owns the consultant, pays him pennies on the dollar of the consultants true worth then charges the client 5x what they are paying the consultant. They own the consultants for years contractually. They also like to send fake resumes and 1/15 resumes of consultants are actually real. I could write a book on all the evils and horrors of the H1B program. Bottom line...it's a complete sham with very little actual value.
Thanks to Congress, our former Presidents and businesses lobbyists for prodding this despicable visa process under the guise of, “there aren’t enough qualified U.S. workers.” Of course the companies aren’t required to prove their statements. Maybe there needs to be a data base for those graduates/unemployed citizens looking for jobs in a particular field. Companies should then be required to hire and train before foreign work permits are granted. Eliminate importation and provide tax incentives to manufacturers of furniture, electronics, appliances, agriculture/farming. Stop providing incentives to multi million and billion dollar companies that have been established greater than say 5 years. Start exploring children’s interests in 7-8th grade and start training 9-12 (woodworking/furniture manufacturing, growing crops/co-op on farms with flexible school schedules, welding, auto repair/manufacturing, plumbing/HVAC, electrical work, landscaping, construction/remodeling. Eliminate study halls, Physical. Education. Teach practical skills: opening a bank account, budgeting, balance your checkbook, cooking, home repairs. Incorporate these skills in community service: Habitat for Humanity, yard work for the elderly and disabled, simple repairs in the home of elderly and disabled for extra credit. Still continue to teach English and literature, writing, basic math, sciences. How often is algebra, geometry, calculus used unless you are an architect? Foreign languages only needs to be taught if attending university or have International business aspirations (offer Chinese, Spanish, French, German, etc. Only those proficient in English may take the other language-I can’t tell you how many times children who don’t have a grasp of English are forced to take a foreign language. This is a set up for failure and poor self esteem.)
If you take a wider view they use these imported workers for multiple reasons.
Can use as ‘diversity’ quotas —> boost DEI ESG points bullshit. Of course these imported workers are not citizens and not ‘minority’ in their own countries. So counting them as minority here makes no sense.
They are basically indentured servants who can be deported if they don’t toe the line of companies that hire them.
They don’t come from 1st amendment countries so why would they care if people are censored here? Censorship is normal from where they come from.
Obviously to also depress citizen wages.
Probably used for many other reasons (spies/hackers from foreign intel agencies etc).
It's about to get a lot worse. All of the layoffs at the companies like FB and Amazon getting ready to happen will be American workers. They will be replaced by H1-Bs from India.
“According to a report based on U.S. Census data, in 2018, migrants using H-1B visas (which allow them to work and live in the U.S., on a temporary basis, within specialized sectors) made for about 71 percent of Silicon Valley tech workers.”
One excellent way to ensure you have fewer Americans willing to pursue these advanced studies, is to punish their parents and the parents of friends who are engineers, programmers and researchers. Have people watch as they are laid off in huge numbers. As they lose their homes, retirements and are forced to move somewhere else to start over every few years
Why would any young person want to sign up for this abuse? Get a degree in something easier, more stable and let someone else take the big risks
I am 60+ now, very lucky in that my investments in tech have been lucky in the extreme. Most of my peers have not been this fortunate. But it’s hard to recommend young kids pursue the route I went. Because American politics has laid that path full of land mines.
Whats worse than this...well maybe not... is the outsourcing of shit to other countries. I have seen whole departments close and get outsourced to India...scam
It’s not about hate as much as it’s about profit. Why hire Americans when you can get cheap slave labor. Corporations have no country boundaries or allegiance.

It's what chased me out of my previous career in IT.
They’re mostly communists, which is a thousand miles worse .

Basically indentured servitude

The caste system is institutionalized slavery/totalitarianism.
The British saw this quickly and used indians as slave masters. The equivalent of middle managers of today.
Why are there indians in South Africa? Guyana? The british took them there, to manage the slaves.
Today they are called big tech managers. But it's the same culture/type of people.
Yes you tend to see Indians hire Indians in US and elsewhere, the hiring laws notwithstanding.
They have to go back!
It's about to get a lot worse. All of the layoffs at the companies like FB and Amazon getting ready to happen will be American workers. They will be replaced by H1-Bs from India.
Not a bad guess.
Then they will collapse from parjeet street shitters who can barely hold a pencil correctly
Remember in 2020 when Trump either tried to put additional limits in place, or pause (apologies, I can’t remember details) on all work visas?
All the racist/bigoted/xenophobic name-calling was out in full force by the white libs.
These idiots were too stupid to realize all their “living wage” complaints were being impacted, at least in part, by shit like this. Dumb mf’ers
They cannot see big picture.
Granted an exception in 3….2…..1……

Yeah you should checkout the other major corps. Like 60% foreign workers. Cheap labor and with no talk back because if they do, off they go.
Modern day slaves. Same with those day laborers in the farms
STEM degrees are HARD.

This why elon shitcanned twitter workforce?
Imagine how many people from poor comunities could have great jobs if they focused on edjucating them on hiw to succeed in these areas.
This is dated but just think how these types of scumbags have further modernized this BS. The goal is to not find a qualified American workers.

DEPORT.
DEPORT..

And people wonder if there are cybersecurity problems?
The entire tech industry is full of H1B1s. Our politicians and executives hate us. Why not hire Americans?
It’s not about hate as much as it’s about profit. Why hire Americans when you can get cheap slave labor. Corporations have no country boundaries or allegiance.
The H1B1s are paid close to what US people are paid.
Not in my experience, often the H1Bs were paid only 75% of what I was getting at best, sometimes as low as 50%.
You were also getting less than what you would have, if they weren't in the country.
Wow...I didn't know it was that low. I guess it's better than living in the hellhole of India, beep beep beep. Always that stupid horns honking.
I was on a call this past week and there were 33 people on the call. Only seven of us are natural born Americans. It's shocking. We've been sold out.
Also Labor Dept. reports H1B salaries as public info. Many sites to do “research”
