Sorry that I haven't heard the news yet, but I've looked on here and other sites and have yet to hear of the final vote totals. What deal did Gaetz extract from McCarthy that the "group of 20" let a few of their members cross over and cast the deciding vote for McCarthy?

There were quite a few but the biggest one being the rule that allows 1 person to bring forward vote to vacate the chair, then he would need 217 votes to stay in chair. That essentially means the 20 MAGA have control over McCarthy so essentially Trump has control over McCarthy
I don't think this can be underestimated (over estimated?). McCarthy might not have a long run as speaker.
I thinks it's misunderestimate :-)
And the process to become Speaker really drillled it into KM’s head that his position as speaker is tenuous - at the discretion of a few dozen hard core MAGA reps.
Deals: 1 lawmaker can make motion to elect new speaker / votes on term limits/ votes on budget resolution that balances the budget in 10 years/ not to increase debt limit without spending cuts/ not bring bills to floor until 72 hours passed : 3 seats on rules committee for house freedom caucus members
The left is freaking about the three new members on the rules committee because that’s where the real power is.
Correct.
Yes. Now that I understand this, it's absolutely everything. No bills will go forward unless the freedom causes wants them.
When the left panics and freaks out this much, I know that we have struck gold!
I'm tired of the SoTH stuff, he won our side got something, not everything but enough. We keep an eye on the SOB and we start investigating J6. We get those people out of the concentration camp er I mean the DC Jail, and start saving the country.
He got 216 votes while 6 voted present Bobert, Biggs, Gaetz, Good, Crane & Rosendale & I guess since voted present they could proceed- I watch the relentless intimidation in Bobert & Gaetz congressman standing with their junk in her face & some even started getting physical and had to be pulled away- it was a shit show
That's the best part. In order to fight SoTH removal all they have to show up to vote. Simon says "go to work."
I read somewhere that Gaetz got the Armed Services chair and that was why the guy from Alabama lunged at him. Have not personally confirmed.
This sparked a thought, so I will share it.
We must realize that if McCarthy is the Speaker, Trump is the Microphone.
Based on the list of concessions seems the question should be what did McCarthy get? Perhaps a get outta-jail-free card. Leverage is strong on this one.
It wasn’t nearly enough. They had all the power in the world, and they caved.
Yes they had leverage, but there is such a thing as overplaying one's hand. I think they got MOST of what they wanted and realized at some point that it was ALL they were going to get. Principles are good, but at some point, reality has to kick in.
Precisely. I do think that the MAGA group stopped stalling at the exact moment that they got everything they realistically can get out of McCarthy. Trying to get even more crosses the line to being too greedy and needlessly risk our gains.
Since the Senate must concur on legislation the Congress is hamstrung on that path. Infers more to come. IMO, Senators have more to fear regarding investigations.
You can't start investigating and letting Jim Jordan free to hammer down without Congress working. The faster Jordan and his gang get to work the faster we get answers in the public realm. Once the answers come out by them all the info can be used. So they couldn't get one without settling for the other. 5D chess move.
