The Oakland Fire Department tweeted that the outage was caused by a fire at a PG&E substation near 50th Avenue and Coliseum Way in East Oakland. The fire ignited around 1 p.m. and a spokesperson from the fire department said when firefighters arrived on scene, they found a "transformer actively burning inside the yard."

THIS. Some people don’t understand that 54k outage is kinda mundane. An issue at one substation could cause this and could be fixed within an hour. Not saying this isn’t news, but the 54k number is nothing out of the ordinary—much less “massive”.
