The Bible said it thousands of years ago, Proverbs 13:24 “Whoever does not discipline his son hates him, but whoever loves him is diligent to correct him.”
Since you have an issue with it, why don’t you do a word study on scriptural discipline? You think it means violence. Correction is the goal done because of love.
I hate to break it to all the formerly abused children on here who grew up fearing their fathers, but some of us didn't grow up fearing our fathers and got all the discipline and correction we ever needed. I couldn't give two shits what your interpretation of Solomon's proverbs are. The abused are gonna abuse and justify their abuse until finally...they don't. Good luck hitting your kids. Go ahead and lie to yourself about how much they loved you on your deathbed.
Spanking a child for anything other than an action that can actually threaten their life, such as walking out into the street, does not count as discipline in my mind. It is, in fact, abuse.
One can make anyone "behave" through violence. That doesn't make it virtuous.
Did you actually beat your children with rods? (doesn't that sound a little ridiculous? Hitting children with rods?) If you didn't hit your children with rods, why are you appealing to the Bible to justify hitting them with anything else?
This verse from the Old Testament is not talking about a beatin' rod. There are many types of rods in the Bible.
My Father didn't spank me much (cuz I was a perfect child /s)...but after repeatedly telling me to look both ways before crossing the street, he knew he had to make an impression. So the last time I committed aforementioned infraction, I got my pants pulled down and three smacks to the ass right on the spot. That was when I was about six or so, I'm now in my 60s...and to this day...I look both ways...twice. (I miss my Dad).
Ponder: If you are cooking and your small child reaches up for the stove burner, and you only have time to smack their hand out of they way, what do you do?
On the other hand taking away luxuries like electronics seems to be quite effective.
A Child should NOT be afraid the parent is going to hurt them, they should be afraid to hurt their parent.
Nope. I would never hit my daughter, and I've always treated her with respect. She's an adult now, and respectful of both herself and those around her.
I’m sorry for any type of Abusive Punishment you may have received when you were a child that caused that condition.. I genuinely am.. Anyone responsible for that should be punished… I’m not referring to Abusive correction.. Just a pop on the bottom to get the child’s attention..
Black absent fathers beat their kids too. Stop making this place your abuse confessional. Fatherlessness is the problem. Not a lack of violent discipline.
You could try talking to your fucking kids about WHY you have certain rules. But maybe you’re too impatient, stupid, or you think they’re too stupid for that.
Go brag about beating your kids’ asses somewhere else.

While it's in the Bible, the Bible does not "say" things. For disambiguation, we should note that Proverbs is Old Testament. Jesus did not say this.
Translations matter. KJV uses the worth "chasten," not "discipline."
Discipline and hitting children are not the same thing.
LOL did the Bible also define "discipline" as making them fear you through the threat of violence? Where is that Bible dictionary, by the way?

Don't confuse discipline with abuse. They are radically different.

Proverbs 13:24 KJV
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
I spanked my kids and we could take any of them anywhere...they knew how to behave...
I have several badly behaved grandchildren that have not been spanked and behave terribly at home and in public...not fun to be around...
One can make anyone "behave" through violence. That doesn't make it virtuous.

Here's a random link I just googled. https://www.patheos.com/blogs/theprinciplesofspiritualliving/2014/11/the-truth-about-spare-the-rod-and-spoil-the-child/

That is literally the only instance I approve of spanking.

One does not need to rule by fear.
Lack of discipline and participation trophies is what got us to where we are at today!
Fuck child hitters. You were raised by child hitters, and now you justify the abuse with scripture. Fucking stupid.
FYP:
As a result, I now suffer from a psychological condition known as submissive personality
I've seen you post about spanking here before. Odd.

Unfortunately a pop on the bottom is not what is meant by spanking. Spanking is abusive punishment basically by definition.
Certainly not the definition anyone I’ve ever known has ever had for it… the term for Abusive Spanking would be Child Abuse..
Children should be taught to submit only to the Truth.
Spanking is lazy, ignorant parenting. End of story.
