Not a fan of Jerry Springer. I believe his show was a launching pad for the beginning of degenerate tv

I never watched his show. I heard him on a radio interview decades ago. He was arguing for increased welfare payments because how else are poor people supposed to provide for their families. I don’t think poor people should be having kids that they can’t afford, so I thought he was a jerk, and that was my one exposure to jerry springer.
Original oprah was way worse than Jerry.
Never watched her show. Never watched Dr. Phil, or Sally Jesse, or anyone else. I was always working, and more importantly, uninterested in this crap.
I don't agree. Jerry would drop massive redpills time to time in his after show monologues. His show was the predecessor to cringetok and was alerting us to subcultures when the internet was not what it was.
Godfather of reality TV for a reason, he was not an idiot and it is sad the vaccine killed him
He always said in interviews that his show was modeled after professional wrestling and he kept doing it because people watch. He most certainly wasn't an idiot.
He hired a bunch of indie pro wrestlers to be on his show and do the fake fights, because they knew how to talk and fall correctly.
Among them was a wrestler who went by Justin Roberts, whose in-ring career never went anywhere...until he changed duties, and now he's the ring announcer for All Elite Wrestling.
Seriously, have a watch. That's him.
To compare, here's an interview from 2019.
That's not the only time. I worked with a girl that was approached at a Detroit rock 'n' wrestling show and appeared along with band member/wrestlers on the Jerry Springer show. It was funny to watch her play the bad girl and antagonize the crowd on tv!
Predictive programming for the masses.
Morton Downey jr kind of started it... At least the "reality trash talk show" type
Older guys like me remember someone back in the '60s. There was the Joe Pyne show, that was syndicated on TV and radio. I think Morton Downey was heavily influenced by him.
The funniest part of the coverage of his death, to me, was the NY Post OpEd calling him a smart man.
He got arrested for soliciting prostitution because he paid with a personal check.
Dude was an idiot bankrolled by those wishing to highlight the victims of the downfall of American society.
Jerry started out doing a good show. Got no ratings, became the king of BS talk.
Yes you do.
Amazing what can happen when you pay a hooker with a check...
I remember Jerry said that his show was one that he wouldn't watch, himself.
I’m with you on this- it normalized, glorified, made funny, etc…. The sort of train-wreck situations which people should be ashamed of.
I been saying that. Every kid in my middle school watched that trash.
He was a former Mayor of Cincinnati
Let's not forget Morton Downey Jr.
He was a shrewd guy himself, and no idiot.
The idiots were the ones who appeared on his show, and the ones who watched it.
He exploited people for entertainment and $. The world could use less of folk like that, imo.
If his show was a vehicle for a type of degeneracy, perhaps the announcement that he'd passed is comms for "show's over."
interesting that clip from Maurie was going around the day before Jerry died... I'd lump Maurie in there with Jerry for sure
