This is a VERY excellent supplement...
if you participate in sinful habits NAC is also a blessing. will protect you if you take it before consuming alcohol (at least 1 hour before, don't take it after) and smokers/vapers will find their lungs in better shape overnight. I also take a ton of it (3+ times a day) if I am sick or becoming sick.
Also helps get rid of a hangover if you take it the next morning and chug some water
Electrolytes and water will cure some of that drunkenness before someone crashes.
Also, egg specific breakfasts the next morning will help the hangover.
Thanks! Good to know. I came across a bottle of it that I forgot about. I was taking it during my ultrarunning days (stopped in 2020). I couldn't even remember why I was taking it. I think I read it was good for a healthy heart? I'm almost out now, and in nyc, so I guess I will reorder. Kek
One bottle every 5 or 6 years and you're good to go.
And quercetin is an anti-inflammatory that can help with congestion in the sinuses.
How do you take NAC? A tablet from amazon w/ lunch or dinner??
Best I can figure: NAC 600 mg one capsule daily for one week, then increase to 600 mg twice a day. Seems like this is the dose you need to achieve to really get it to work. After another week, you can go to 1200 mg in the AM and 600 mg at bedtime, and after one more week, up to 1200 mg twice a day. Easier to tolerate if you take with food. No dosage adjustment needed for kidney or liver disease, and no dosage adjustment required if over 65. Haven't heard anything about problems with using it for more than three weeks.
If you can get someone to write a script for it, it can be covered under a health savings account or Flex spending account.
Since the 1960's it's been used to treat Tylenol overdoses https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2637612/
Don't buy from Amazon. They're evil
its pretty easy on the system. i didn't have to work up to a full dose, and was even advised to pop an extra one if it seems appropriate. just to be wary of using it regularly for weeks on end.
Sounds good. Did a quick search on that question and found this:
https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s40264-020-01026-y
i was doing three capsules a day, WITH meals containing protein.
BUT I was advised not to keep up that pattern for more than about three weeks at a time, or the body can become reliant on the supplement.
I bought a container of the crystals on Amazon. It has 415 servings in this container (1/4 tsp per serving). Not bad at all!
Amazon sells the fake stuff, and they’re evil lol.
Can you take NAC when breastfeeding, anyone know?
It's recommended to take during pregnancy to protect the child and prevent a miscarriage, so I doubt there's a problem taking it while breastfeeding.
As OP said most online resources won't commit to a definitive answer but I couldn't find any that recommend against it. This website actually answers several pregnancy-related questions directly, and says NAC is safe while breastfeeding:

Thank you!!!
You're very welcome! :)
neither NIH or WebMD are willing to commit to a definitive answer ("ask your doctor") but this site livestrong says "usually safe (ask your doctor)"

is NAC the same as NAD?
that appears to stand for "nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, which is a coenzyme that helps with energy production in the body."
i'm not a doctor, but that sounds like a no.
Ah. Yea I've heard of that but not NAC, yet lately I keep seeing NAC everywhere. Might have to give it a try
It might help if you have crud in the lungs that your body needs to process. I think it's also a precursor to glutithione, one of the most powerful antioxidants.
I'm hoping that the vaporized nicotine I inhale all day (3 years free from cigs) has cleared my lungs pretty well, but there are other things I bet I could clear from years of bad diets etc
Wait what is this vaporized nicotine you speak of? My hubby wants to quit.
Oh wait, sluggish after a big lunch...you mean vaping? LOL Yeah, I do that too. I've bought him 3 different vapes and he loses them all. The patch helps him but he doesn't remember to put it on every day
yea, I use the juul virginia tobacco 5%. I really like it, but sometimes its a bad batch which doesnt hit right. Thats the only down side
He's lost at least 2 of the juuls I got him. I found one under the car seat and one in between the couch cushions. I prefer my SMOK vape pen V2. I vape fruit flavors and he would never, but I have the lowest amount of nicotine in mine
use with NAD+ for maximum effectiveness
Sad part it that yes, the smoke is an issue. The actual change in climate caused by this in coming years along with losing all the oxygen factories that they are is going to cause problems.
