Never mind that many devices are preloaded with preferential software like Google and YouTube.
Phones+Laptops+Smart TVs.
Meanwhile congress lost their fucking shit when PCs shipped with internet explorer in the 90s lol
Android is Google owned. The only competitors are Apple and Microsoft, but honestly Microsofts 'windows phone' isn't really that big of a competitor.
About time. Search engines even go as far as listing youtube vids over rumble vids, even when specifying a search for rumble video. Clear, and obvious anti-trust law violations.
I haven’t used or even been to the google search site in like three years. I don’t miss it.
"yet when you google it..."
It's their own platform. Of course they're going to prioritize their other project, youtube for their own search. I don't see this going anywhere.
Awareness of other good search engines is the way to solve this.
all the member berries of fonder times when Microsoft got "railroaded" for simply preinstalling internet explorer (to the point they had to create a special European release without a browser packaged) because "prioritizing their other business" is an antitrust violation
Cool. Then they're not eligible for Section 230 status anymore. They are capable and obviously willing to exercise editorial control of their results. In fact, it's obviously profitable for them to do so.. so, they can now be liable in criminal court for those results.
Also.. anti-trust law covers a huge number of things, and "bundling" and "loss leading" are among them. The laws are there to protect markets, not business interest.
^^This^^ Should be spread far and wide.
But it requires the government that is highly invested (merged) and special interest groups and individuals who are invested to work against there personal interests.
ajax is not just for ads
While I agree on principle based on my libertarian views, that's not how the law works. Google is on a thin line of having a monopoly already. The last thing they should be doing is giving preferential treatment, especially when it's not obvious to the average consumer, to one of their other products.
That's illegal under anti-trust laws in the business world.
If they win this, holy shit...
Windows 98 and Internet Explorer is precedent.
Makes me remeber windows phone days and Microsoft ads... "Dont be Evil Google".
Google, a monopoly? Say it ain't so!
This is why they broke it up and made up Alphabet... to try to make it when the monopoly is broken up, it'll just be the smaller subset of the bigger company. That, and they're putting their more nefarious stuff (ie, genetics and such), under different "companies".
On just about any search engine, you're usually better off going a few pages in for decent results.
