Personal observation and opinion
Large grocery store chains try to gouge us to the maximum extent possible. People stop buying. Then they have big sales to move inventory. People stock up. This sets up an unpredictable demand cycle.
These hog farms would rather be in a position of not having enough pork than too much. Not enough, they get higher prices. Too much and they’re selling at a loss.
after growing up around packing plants & nasty confinement farming, I think this is a positive. pork is strange anymore, doesn't taste like it did in the 70s, we can't treat animals the way we do & expect it to turn out good:(
small family farms=much better food
plus it was George Washington's vision for our country. wouldn't doubt if we are going back to some of those ways; rotation farming, etc.

Well we do have FAKE MEAT now
We buy ALL of our meat from a local butcher shop/processor in Haubstat Indiana (Dewigs). I call it ‘meat mecca’. Best bacon in the western hemisphere. They get all of their livestock from local farmers. None of that feed-lot trash. We drive 4 hours round trip every other month to stock up there. That sounds insane to a lot of people, driving 4 hours to get bacon/steak/pork/turkey. Its actually cheaper than wal-mart meat. Its mostly Amish and Mennonite farms. The quality is orders of magnitude better than any of that feed-lot chum they sell at grocery stores.
Find a local butcher shop. They are out there. Find them. Make the drive if you have to. I assure you, you will not be sorry.
Swine's flesh is not food. This could be a blessing from God.
Bacon is proof God loves us.
Smithfield is owned by the Chinese. Haven't bought their stuff in years.
