These people are stupid. And this weird crap has a much greater "environmental" impact then raising beef.
"The fake meat industry continues to nosedive as its flagship enterprise, Beyond Meat, continues to hemorrhage cash.
In a third-quarter earnings report last week, the company reported an 8.7% drop in net revenue year-over-year at $75.3 million. While gross profit was better than last year, it was still a loss of $7.3 million. Beyond Meat’s net loss was $70.5 million, down from $101.7 million from last year.
“We are disappointed by our overall results as we continue to experience worsening sector-specific and broader consumer headwinds,” Beyond Meat President and CEO Ethan Brown said in the report. “As we shared last week, we are conducting a review of our global operations for purposes of further and significantly reducing our operating expense base as we seek to accelerate our transition to a sustainable and, ultimately, profitable business.”

Veggie burgers are different. They're not meat substitutes, and they are clean (well...as clean as any vegetable is nowadays..) ingredients that we can consume as part of a regular diet anyway.
Fake meat, particularly lab grown meat, is designed to try and trick you into believing it's real meat.
I like vegetables. I like a mushroom burger. Bean burgers are good too. But they are not trying to be meat, they are simply different dietary choices to hit a different flavor note, craving or caloric target.
The campaign of the fake meat industry was focused on deception to begin with, and forced people to eat fake meat against their consent. That was always going to be doomed to fail for anyone paying a modicum of attention.

I'd rather they be honest - I've enjoyed some vegan meals but like my ex used to make a beef stroganoff with mushrooms and fake cheese sauce made from nutritional yeast and shit and I'm like "this is good, but it is not and will never be beef stroganoff. Why not enjoy for what it is?"

Turns out the sugar industry rigged the stats and blames cholesterol on heart disease instead of sugar like the Harvard study showed. A little cash and the study got skewed. Lots of videos on this. Even the fact that most people having heart attacks have low cholesterol.

I think the most impressive is that when we are talking only 8 digit revenue numbers, they were delusional enough to believe or at least think we would believe that the public was anywhere near significant adoption.
That's why gates is now crying for regulations. They figured out we don't like it so we must be forced to eat it. For our own good, of course.
