So we have countless men crossing the boarder with no belongings and no homes and no jobs. Why don't we create a program where illegal immigrant men and women sign up to a course to learn English after which they are put into the Military for service and only at the end of that service do they earn US citizenship. This would help the military with needed numbers and it would help assimilate immigrants into American values. If the Immigrant doesnt want this path we can deport them back to their country.

Have you been to Miami? Go check it out. See how the immigrants have not learned English even after decades of living here. See how they ignore, mock, and jeer at our American values. So these are the immigrants that are already here. Have been here for ages. Couldn’t care less about the USA. They’re here to make money. And send it home. They’ll take a dump on the flag and laugh at you while they’re doing it. Somehow, the illegals rushing our border now are going to care about learning English? Hilarious notion! And they’ll have the discipline to be in the military? 😂 I will also add that Miami’s city council meetings are conducted in Spanish.
It’s the same here in Utah. They joke that Sam’s and Costco gets the most business on all US holidays bc Mexicans/Latinos don’t give a damn about -Independence Day -Presidents’ Day Labor Day -or Memorial day.
You can’t go to any restaurant/drive through without them not speaking or understanding English, delivery drivers don’t speak English pathetic —they’re real dicks.
You are pretty much pointing at a spoiled child and telling me its a "Hilarious notion" that any other child could grow up not being a spoiled brat. The system in place is the root problem. First you need to see a difference between Immigrants that have been here many years and have been allowed to be set in their ways and new Immigrants that can be molded into what we expect of them in our country. When you don't have a set path for assimilation people will take the path of least resistance, they will group together with the same creating communities where they no longer need to worry about assimilating and then the they vs them grows in their circles and also grows in the American people such as yourself. The issue has been that we have been too soft on what we expect of them. The Military is a good place for this to take place, they are watched after 24/7, if they commit crimes they are put in bars right away and deported. Just like any American that would join you either get with the program or youre in the shit. Its all about setting guidelines and holding firm to that.
just ship them to Ukraine, no training
Yep
Do you know that after the great influx through Ellis Island, the U S stopped all legal immigration for 50 years so the new arrivals would have more than a generation to assimilate.
The military has already opened its ranks in exchange for citizenship. From what I'm gathering the variety of cultures and ideologies has only served to weaken our military. You are correct: the system in place is the root problem. The entire immigration system, legal and illegal, needs to be shut down and redesigned. First, we need to stop the brain drain. It is unfair to the home countries for us to continuously recruit the best and brightest through legal immigration and it is unfair to America to be coerced into housing, feeding, educating the unwanted in their home countries through illegal entry. All the monies the government and NGOs spend on mass invasion can be used in their home countries. The question is Who and Why are TPTB emptying out entire continents of their lower classes.
What if, after a couple of years, the most popular name for a soldier was Vladimir or Muhammad? Might that be an issue?
Are you suggesting first names represent a culture/ideology?
Yes
Not unless "illegal immigrant" is a culture or ideology.
How about they solve the problems in their own countries that are causing them to leave rather than cause more problems in ours.
Ukraine could use them.
How about no. How about if they want to become American citizens, they can go through a process that does not include illegally crossing our border.
How about you lend a bank robber a little bit of money after he puts a gun in your face?
I will not ignore the fact that they chose a completely illegal and manipulating route to get here.
This.
Nope
friendly fire and no loyalty.l
They do not want to assimilate and there are terrorists that have been let into our country. You want to arm them? I don’t think that would work out well for anyone.
No. It's an unpopular opinion because it's shows naive judgement. People entering legally who want to preserve the constitution have a loyalty and respect for the country. If the criminal who entered illegally, proving no support for our rule of law, would deport himself and then enter lawfully to show an appreciation for all of us, maybe. Absolutely no place in the defense of the country for those who defy the defense of the country. That's a horrible idea.
Better idea. Start rounding up illegals and ship them off to Ukraines front lines as cannon fodder. Then sit back and watch the mass exodus of illegals swarm back across the border to Mexico.
American culture US as good or bad as where these people or coming. The thing is, we have a culture already. American culture is known around the world. It is clearly defined. If people want to leave their culture and come to join ours it is because of that American cultural reputation, they by default are chosing to leave their culture behind. I didn't sign up to absorb the culture they decided to leave. I don't want to learn Spanish, or any other language. I don't want to celebrate their holidays. I am not responsible for their financial, health, schooling or entertainment. If I even visit another country I would follow their culture. I expect the same respect or I see you as an invader. The states that change their own culture to fit an interloper culture signed their death warrant.
Foreign citizens already join our military and some already use their service to become citizens. Over 30 years ago I served with a Canadian, a Pakistani, and Mexican citizens in my unit. I believe all of them went onto become citizens.
More than likely anyone coming across the southern border would have zero chance of passing the screening process to enter the military for a variety of reasons. I suspect the reasons would range from literacy to criminal records.
Sadly, I'm not sure our DEI military has any such standards anymore.
Then we would have a foreign military within our borders. These are people who have no cultural or historical connection to us, and you want to arm them and put them next door. No. No. No.

Who controls said military?
English guy here. Why do Americans consider English to be so important? Of course there was a strong connection with England (before you kicked King George III's ass) but surely your country was built from a larger cross-section of other languages.
Having no uniting language is as destructive as no uniting culture. Think Tower of Babel
I think what makes speaking English here so important, is the perception that being American means a lot. We consider ourselves lucky and blessed to be born Americans, even in these weird times. Our history and heritage also give us a deep resentment of anyone who 1) would tell us what to do (a la a king), 2) would take advantage of the freedoms that were so hard won, 3) are liars, cheaters, and thieves. We also hate traitors with a passion.
If you go to another country and refuse to learn their language and customs, that's a slap in the face. See: Australia
Common law. Common literature. Common great books and ideas. European, west and east.
I got downvoted for asking this so it is obviously an emotional subject.
When I have met many Americans who are proud of their (for example) Polish or Italian ancestry. If I were one of those I would feel pretty insulted that my heritage was somehow inferior to immigrants from England.
In 1776, English was the universal language of the colonists and has remained so in 98 percent of the country.
Why do the Scots, Welsh, and Irish speak English? Commerce/Trade. Do you really expect everyone to have their own personal translator while conducting business?
During the heyday of the British Empire, English was spoken world-wide. It was common sense to choose English. What other language is spoken on every continent?
