Its possible that Chuck Grassley was on the WH side only in the beginning of the OP. As alignments change, we see true colors. But hoping there is more to him though.
The deal is he is deep state. He made a deal with white hats. My “feeling” is he is not long for this world.
You might be quite right. Different people made different deals. Some played their role early and some much later. Kinda makes you wonder just how many people in positions of power right now will actually emerge completely uncompromised on to the other other side.
I might be more surprised by Kennedy.

i am not trying to defend him but i wanted to throw a few things out for thought. If he is in the know and the bill was never going to pass the house anyway it could be a political move. dont forget we need some of these people to get reelected. in moderate districts and states moves like these can diffuse dem talking points. for example voting yes on a bill you know is never getting past the house anyway can protect from certain attacks from the left. no he cant be accused by the moderates of bailing on ukraine. there are still a lot of sheep out there that are buying that we need to fight russia through ukraine. this was just an example. another is if grassley is on his way out and served his purpose it could fire up republicans to get out to vote for a MAGA candidate after feeling betrayed. I look at it a lot like poker. there are a lot of people at the table and dont forget the bluff. if he is a white hat him voting yes can empower others to show their cards.

In the end the Senate is just a horse-trading good ole boys club. In exchange for his vote on this, he probably got more corn subsidies or something for Iowa.
This is why the Senate should not be elected by 'popular vote' , especially when that vote can be stolen!.

I think he is a sellout! No one that cares for THIS country would EVER vote for that bill, especially since it hogties Trump if he get's re-elected Impeachment if he stops Ukraine funding.
