Doesn't matter who the captain was because he isn't in control of the ship in the harbor. The ships have an American pilot at the helm when entering/exiting the harbor. The pilot boards the ship out at sea then takes control and pilots it into the ship channel and docks it with the help of the tugs.
“Multiple people” were on the bridge when it collapsed, the chief of the Baltimore City Fire Department, James Wallace, said during a press conference.
Two people have been rescued from the water so far. One of them refused medical care, while the other is in “very serious condition,” Wallace said. The search continues for “upwards of seven people,” he added.
During the same press conference, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott described the collapse as an “unthinkable tragedy.” The efforts of the authorities are now focused on “folks we have to try to find and save,” he stated.
It is impossible to tell just from the footage, also there are other factors such as the tide: Which way was it flowing and how fast? And there is the momentum from coming around the bend in the river, which would still be pushing against the rudder that lost control in the power outage.
The Captain is not driving the ship. There was a harbor pilot on board, instructing the coxswain where to head. I don't think for a second that the Captain was going to over ride the harbor pilot and instruct the coxswain to steer for the bridge pier.

^This. One has to wonder WHO the pilot was?
I have seen no mention of casulaties yet.
Was there traffic on the bridge? I saw some just seconds before, and was trying to see if any fell in the water, but too fuzzy.
Did the ship go down? How many people on board?
They closed the bridge just a minute or so before the hit. A work crew was still on the bridge when it happened.
Thanks.
I found the information about possible caualties on RT. Trust Russians to worry about that bit.

I heard latest is 20 casualties, but always use the 48 hour rule....

Id like to see a casualty list. I have a feeling that the pilot will be on it.
To me, it looks like if it had kept going straight at an angle, it would have missed the support. Instead, it turned to the right, straight into it.

He reversed the engine, and dropped the anchor witch pulled it to the side.
Yes, one can tell that from the smoke grinding out in the attempt to reverse.

Do we have any confirmation on that?
Yeah that never happens. The captain is not at the helm.
Dali is the Caucasian god of hunting.
If you believe wikipedia.
Why did the lights go out the ship right before it hit the support beam?
That was the second time they went out.
That information was not current. Entire crew was Indians.
Keystone??
