After they mate they leave behind a creepy carapace which can be found clinging to trees. We would carefully remove them and wear them on our sweaters when we were kids.

We had an atrium at work where a duck decided to nest. She hatched a half dozen ducklings. People would go out on lunch break and catch cicadas and fill up small boxes. They would put the boxes in the atrium and the cicadas would get out and crawl around. The baby ducks fell all over themselves trying to catch the bugs. Great afternoon entertainment. No work accomplished. They even made to company newsletter
