Hey Frens, looking for some direct experiences with DMSO.
Context: My mother has suffered severe migraines her entire adult life, upwards of 40 years. Been on disability probably the last 15. In the last 10 she was also diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. What began as white hot poker stabbing pain like shocks that would come sporadically and has been mainly controlled by anti-convulsant or anti-epileptic meds like Tegretol, gabapentin, carbamazepine, is now non-stop pain preventing sleep and the meds don’t touch it. When she tried to ween off meds the pain intensifies even more.
I have done research out the wazoo, she knows I prefer natural things but so far is resistant to supplements, worried about interactions with the other Rxs she can’t just stop. But this last week when we talked she was in tears and told me she’s considering surgical intervention as she doesn’t feel like her quality of life is living anymore. Rather long story short, I’m trying to find something she’s willing to try to break through her hopeless western medicine expectations. I think on earthclinic.com a while back someone mentioned DMSO compresses. I have never used DMSO but picked some up today to try before I really encourage her to use it and give more suggested uses and instructions. For those here who have used it, is there a specific site you yiu use to look for interactions? I know she needs clean skin, but as she’s still on other meds is there any way to know what side effects or interactions there may be? I’d hate for her to try and it backfire and she lose all hope.
Also open to hearing anything else anyone has used successfully to combat TN.
Thank you in advance, Frens. 🙏
PS All issues predate Covid hysteria. She is pureblood and will never get the vaxx.
Trigeminal Neuralgia...you don't hear about this disease very often. My Father, who passed away in 2015 at the age of 80, had TN when he was 25 years old. Back then the surgical procedure involved a partial craniotomy to decompress the 5th cranial nerve. His head was completely bandaged and he was in the hospital for close to a month. Rarely (1 in a million) is there a chance of a reoccurance on the opposite side, but he did 30 years later. This time he went to the cleveland clinic and he was admitted as out patient, the procedure was performed in less than an hour and he came out with a bandaid on his cheek, went home same day. free of pain, however half of his mouth was permanently numb. Being free of pain was the goal, from what I understand the episodes of excruciating pain lasting several minutes drive some people with this condition to want to end their life. It is worth it for your mom to have the procedure done for sure. Sending prayers your way for your Mother's complete and total healing in Jesus name.
Ty for sharing. Yes, it’s aka the “suicide disease.” She’s scared of the craniotomy due to her age and potential complications. Not sure the other less invasive options, possibly RF ablation or even radiation.
Was your FIL’s treatment at Cleveland Clinic also craniotomy or something else? My understanding is for craniotomy they go in behind the ear.
My Dad's first occurrence with TN was 65 years ago, that was when he had a partial craniotomy. Technology has advanced so much since then. When he had the reoccurrence on the opposite side it was thirty years later, and because of the advancements in technology his procedure was much less invasive, they made a small incision on his cheek and was able to decompress the nerve. He only had a bandaid on his cheek after the procedure. I am sure things have improved even beyond that. I hope that helps
By the book “dmso handbook”. I suffered with nerve pain in my hands for years and years and dmso took it away on the first application. It is a miracle drug.
replying so I remember the name of the book, thanks!
I have chronic migraines, due to hyperimmunity from formaldehyde poisoning. I would be VERY careful experimenting with DMSO. Your mother has already demonstrated a chronic neurologic issue -- DMSO could create a domino effect with even worse symptoms for her. As we age, it's not uncommon for symptoms to get worse, or experience increased sensitivity. I am 63.
I take a once monthly dose of Aimovig, which reduced my monthly abortive meds from 15+ down to about 7-9. Abortives are zolmitriptan lozenges for emergencies (takes about 90 minutes to begin to feel relief, lasts about 24 hours), and naratriptan (takes 5-6 hours for relief, lasts 36-48 hours) when I have a bit more warning of an oncoming migraine. Since I have an immune component, I switch between doxepin (20mg) and amitriptylene (25mg) as immunomodulators, to prevent tolerance. These I only take for two consecutive nights when necessary.
Aimovig is not without caveats. It takes 5-6 days each month to get "up to speed," and its effectiveness only lasts about three weeks or so. That leaves a window of about 10 days each month when the abortives become more important. I have tried both the 70mg dose and the 140mg dose with no difference observed. I opted for the 70mg dose, to keep things to a minimum. The other biologics don't work as well for me, and make me nauseous.
Unfortunately, there are no good answers for these diseases. If she is not already receiving prescriptions from her neurologist, then find another who will. I strongly empathize with anyone who suffers from these symptoms. It's no joke.
Bullshit! DMSO is one of the most researched, safest molecules on the planet.

DMSO Handbook for Doctors
How to Use DMSO to Treat Dementia
I use DMSO for arthritus and a hiatus hernia. I combine it with black seed oil and magnesium chloride, all in a spray bottle.
As DMSO is absorbed into the body very quickly along with anything else its combined with be extra careful. I use a sterile swab to spread it over my skin.
It isn't expelled from the body very well if at all.
I am not a doctor or anyone medical, please research this rigorously.

I hope this helps.
"Safest molecules?" Would you be willing to experiment on someone suffering ALREADY from neurological disorders?
FYI, I tried DMSO some time ago, and it produced a strong uncomfortable reaction. It is a powerful solvent, and can cause reactions in some.
Caveat emptor...
I grew up seeing her out of her mind with migraines and those pale in comparison to this. I appreciate your sharing. I will research the things you have mentioned. 🙏
Someone close to me has been battling crippling migraines for years.
Botox injections have been the most helpful of everything she's tried.
She's noticed that going to bed early helps. I'm not talking about simply getting enough sleep. It doesn't seem to be the duration of sleep that matters, but the time spent in bed with respect to the sun, moon, stars and the clock. Going to sleep around 9 really seems to help.
You may also want to check if your mom has a tongue-tie.
She also uses a product called "IceKap." There are other brand names, too.
Gabapentin helped, but the side-effects were scary and we feared long term damage. There was lots of pain and intense withdrawal symptoms when she quit it. She's happier off of it.
Stress makes it much worse.
God bless you both.
carbamazapine is tegretol. i took it for a closed head injury that gave me seizures for a few years...
have you tried medicinal cannibus? check out 'weed-maps' & see if they have something for headaches like a higher cbd/thc ratio
Ty, I am not familiar with all the meds and names. She has been on many for TN, and others for the migraines, mostly Imitrex. Unfortunately she thinks of CBD as illicit. Part of what I’ve been trying to break through. Pharma is her crutch. She is very faithful but also very scared. I also think a good CBD with DMSO could be good. Thank you for the recommendation, Fren.
i understand. my former employer was like that.
he also got 2 doses of moderna before i left for not getting vaxed. just found out he died last december
Try heavy metal detox with tumeric and/or cilantro which bind to the metal and pull them out of everywhere including the brain. I used to have headaches all the time, but none after a 12 month detox regimen and ivermectin quarterly.
Also, ivermectin will help if it is parasites. Black cumin seed oil + oil of oregano + green tea extract + zinc picolinate is a powerful anti-parastic/immune booster combo. The first two kill different parasites than ivermectin and the green tea is zinc ionophore that injects the zinc directly into the cell which halts any sort of germ replication, but also boosts immune system generally to help remove toxins and invaders.

Usually caused by a pinched neck nerve. It hit me really bad a few years ago, felt like all my teeth on that side were abscessed, along with a severe headache in my temple. Pain was so bad, I couldn't carry on a conversation, couldn't do anything but lay down and cry and hope the pain eventually went away.
My chiropractor gave an adjustment that helped get the bone off the nerve. Took a few times to clear up. Now I can feel the bit of pain starting, and will use my fingers to push sideways on the tender part of my neck before it gets bad. I find the most painful spot alongside my neck vertebra, then push towards the spine with a bit of pressure. Basically, I'm trying to push the vertebra a bit sideways to get it off the nerve. Then next time I go to the chiropractor, I mention it and he does a specific move to help free the nerve. Ice helps me, heat doesn't.
Riding in the car or driving triggers and/or aggravates it. Have discovered that if I ride with someone else, and lean my seat back a bit, it is much less painful. Apparently, sitting up straight allows the bone to press the nerve too much, and leaning back removes or limits the pressure.
I also carry a point massager with me so if I'm driving, I can use it on my neck.
Your mom might try the stick on pain patches. Even though the pain is mostly in the jaw and temple, the pain/ pinched nerve, is actually coming from the neck, so that's where the patch would go.
This is a horrible pain to have to deal with, and I pray your mom finds quick relief.
Thank you, God bless you.
Ty for the kind words and recommendations. By pain patches do you mean something OTC or prescription?
I normally use OTC ones. However, my doctor gave me some patches one visit (for a different problem), he had some samples available. Could have gotten a prescription if I had asked for it. Also, if your mother can get a "prescription" for a PT, the PT has stronger patches that use a small battery in the patch to make the meds go deeper into the body. Those were best.
I swear LSD was good for massive migraines like this.

This is interesting. I know she’d never even consider this but adding it to my own learning, ty.
Botox
This worked for you or someone you know? Do you know for how long?
Someone I know had trigeminal neuralgia. It wasn't diagnosed until after two root canals unfortunately. A brain surgeon at NY Presbyterian said he could fix her issue and he did. I believe the fix was to put a teflon pad between two nerves that were close together. I think the thinking is that the signal on the nerve carrying the touch sensation jumped onto the nerve carrying the pain signal. So when you'd get slight touch sensation on your cheek let's say, you'd feel terrible pain. And yes, I believe she has a small piece of something behind her ear that was used to close the hole they used to do the surgery.
Consider anti-virals. Do a pubmed search on TM and zoster.
My dad had minimally invasive surgery for trigeminal neuralgia here: https://drjho.com/id68.htm Completely cured.
My Mother recieved Gamma Knife surgery a good 25 years ago. She is doing well, has a bought occasionally. She thinks the nerves are growing back.
The suggestion I want to make won’t be like any others you will likely receive. About a year ago I developed a severe neuralgia of my own (not TN, but excruciating nonetheless). I researched day and night for solutions for this issue as it was severely impacting my life and the pain was unbearable. Months into my incessant research, I just happened to stumble across a random post in a pain forum and the person suggested looking into Dr. John Sarno’s work. His work led him to discover what he called TMS, or Tension Myositis syndrome (also known as Tension Myoneural Syndrome if it affects the nerves). His work led him to believe most chronic pain is actually TMS, and that’s why physical therapy, meds, etc often doesn’t cure these issues in the long term. He believed that repressed emotions were the main contributor to chronic pain, and the body will often create physical pain (even excruciating level pain) as a result. He believed conditions like fibromyalgia, migraines, chronic back/knee/foot/etc pain, nerve pain, numbness, tingling, etc were likely TMS if no true physical cause could be found by a doctor.
At first I outright rejected the idea, but then figured I had nothing to lose, so I bought several of his books and started reading. There are specific personality traits of people who are more susceptible to developing TMS, and I had most of them. Within a couple of months I was roughly 75% cured, and now a year later I’d say I’m 90% cured with only occasional minor flares. His books are all excellent, but The Mindbody Prescription was my favorite. I think he even talks about his own brief experience with TN-like pain and how he cured it.
His work was and still is very much rejected by mainstream medicine, which made me even more curious about whether it would work. It worked for me, maybe see if it can help your mom?
This is likely the cause but resolution depends on if the patient is willing to do this. I think working through forgiving people is good too
I’m really appreciate you sharing this. She certainly has anger. This reminds me of GNM/GHK, which I think is very powerful but dense. Researching Dr. Sarno’s work now.
Carnivore eating. Look up Shawn Baker or Ken Berry or you tube like No Carb Life Anthony Chaffee Steak and Butter Gal. Kelly Hogan to name just a few resources. Nerves are made of proteins and fat - we grew up in a low fat generation. Lied to about the massive health benefits of fat and protein. Send her there and let her explore and see if it rings truth for her. Ketosis and meat.
DMSO and Castor Oil compresses. Along with antioxidants, like NAC and Taurine. Make sure she is getting all of her vitamins and minerals, C and Magnesium at the top of the list.
