Hopefully y'all know me as I have been posting here (tho not too often) for many years now. I am worried about my nephew. He is in his early 40's and was diagnosed many years ago as bipolar 2. He has been on many different medications thru the years and tries his best to control his issues ..... but lately the meds just aren't cutting it and he is having a very rough time. It has gotten to the point where he is willing to consider alternative methods to control/fix the problems he is having. As you all know I turned to Christ and am 25+ years sober due to His strength. But aside from trying to enlighten him into a life of faith does anyone have any other recommendations? I'm looking for any good books on holistic/homeopathic methods, cleansing methods, etc.... Anyone with 1st hand experience with bipolar? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All I can personally suggest is you find him a Functional Medicine Doctor. These are MDs, but they tend to go to the root cause of issues. A capable FMD should be able to give him/you information about the bipolar stuff and offer natural ways to remedy it. He might need a 'cleanse' to get rid of all the chemicals currently in his body. Many FMDs are Christians. That's what I'd look for if I were you. A Christian Functional Medicine doctor who knows his or her stuff and because they are Christian, truly cares. All the best to you and him.
By cleanse I mean, staying off the drugs until they clear his body. I don't know. But an FMD should be able to help. They will know what to do.
Thank you:)
I just listened to a podcast that addresses this very thing. Dr. Chris Palmer has discovered through many case studies that most brain disorders are actually metabolic disorders and can be reversed through diet. Very fascinating stuff! Here is a link to the interview where he discusses someone who got rid of all of their schizophrenia symptoms for good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QUcoBKor9w&list=WL&index=88
Thank you!
One resource that most people don't know about (because the medical model doesn't tell you) is called Peer Support. Google your state and Peer Support for mental health and see what comes up. Make some calls and see if there is a PS resource available for your nephew. Usually it is a non-profit, and the services are free. Support groups and other services are offered in addition to the one on one PS.
A "Peer" is someone who also has a mental health challenge and who has been trained to assist others on their journey... kind of a been there, done that situation that leads to rapport, trust, and support.
PS does not replace anything... what it does is empower and support the person, helping them overcome challenges, come out of isolation, formulate and pursue a path, etc.
Good luck! And hit me up if you have questions.
Good suggestion! I think he already goes to a support group, but I will show him this:) Thanks so much!
Sure thing... and, specifically suggest Peer Support.
As you have testified yourself, your faith in Christ has helped you to be sober. Are you setting aside the Gospel when you try to minister to your nephew?
Worldly wisdom can be of some help, but our only real deliverance comes through Jesus.
My son was diagnosed as bipolar. Once he hit rock bottom, and when coming up from that, he turned his attention to Christ and asked to be baptized. He's still not where I would like him to be, but I do see slow improvements, and he is now faithful to go to Sunday worship and is plugged into a small group with one of the pastors.
Now that he is more open to 'alternatives', I intend to do me best;)
Finland heals their patients with mental illness to 90% WITHOUT DRUGS! Let that sink in!

But from my experience with my sister and deep dives into this matter, also consider parasites responsible for these diseases. Give perhaps ivermectin a try. Investigate, inform yourself.
From homeopathic treatment (miasms) I know that diseases like syphilis, psora, sycosis, tubercolosis, cancer could also be causing the mental illness.

I take ivermectin myself, and didn't think it would apply here, but you have given me food for thought and I will check the resources you suggest. Thanks so much!
Several people I know with anxiety have taken ivermectin. All of them have described what they term as “relief”. I did a fairly deep dive on T.Ghondi. It’s a parasite that can cross the blood brain barrier. There are not a lot of studies on it (I’m sure no funding for the research) but one paper theorized the white masses found on brain scans in schizophrenia patients could actually be eggs.
My opinion, the ivermectin couldn’t hurt. All of them tried it and it made a difference, so who knows?
If he’s ready for alternative methods, I would suggest doing a detox through fasting and diet while doing the parasite detox. Lots of lemon water, lentils, super foods.
Then rebuilding the body with diet, exercise and natural remedies/ vitamins. There are naturalist doctors out there that can guide you with the supplements. It will take time to introduce things one at a time but he will get there! Dropping a few links to start the rabbit hole if you’re interested.

Had a family member diagnosed as bipolar. Got him onto St John's wort tea and he was able to get off the pharma meds. Big changes after getting off the meds. Still has some tough days, but made a huge overall difference.
Thank you:)
Read my earlier comment about parasite detox. You never know!
Saw this in /all. I have experience. If he drinks or does any drugs, he has to stop because it causes major mood shifts. Peer support works. Look for a group called depression and bipolar support alliance.
May not be popular here, but micro dosing psylocibon works, too. You do not get high at all. It takes some time, but I was able to even get off of meds completely and I don't micro dose any more (it's temporary).
Lastly, reduce stress as much as possible and recognize we live in a very toxic society that some are more effected by than others. Would be good to talk about this with him because the psych world tells you are crazy for things that may just be a reaction to living amongst crazy. If he can shift his mindset a bit, it can be healing in itself.
You're a good uncle.
Great advice:) Thanks so much!
This was what I was going to say. LSD and Psyliscibin create new neural pathways and are showing great promise with addiction and psychological disorders. Helped a friend of mine with ptsd and I read a story about a guy who was a heroin addict that did ayahuasca (DMT) and after many hours came down from his high said he hydrated ate breakfast then lunch and didn't realize until after dinner he hadn't shot up in more than 24 hours and didn't even have the desire to.
Psychedelics have spiritual and medicinal benefits, don't listen to burnouts that did it every day in school saying it's a way of life or straight laced people who heard from a guy that heard from a guy that knew of one instance that proves they are the worst thing you can do.
Another free thing to try.

I watch all the carnivore/ low carb channels and there is some dramatic changes in mood/well being on low carb. The plus is that it is good for the body even if it doesn’t completely cure the illness.
Thank you:)
I'm 59 years old and was diagnosed as manic-depressive as a kid. Over the years I have found that decompressing in nature (ocean, woods, the desert) helps to manage stress levels. Acupuncture can also help if you can find an acupuncturist with experience treating mental illness. My issue is the deep depression but when I come out of it I ricochet into mania. For the manic phase, sadly, only pharmaceuticals seem to quiet the brain so I can sleep (during the manic phase it's high noon in my head 24/7 and it feels like a pinball machine)
I'll keep your nephew in my prayers.
Thank you:) This kind of 1st hand testimony I think will help him the most:)
I've been on almost every med for it. They do stop working and need to be changed every now and again. Every few years I'd have to take a week or so off work to adjust to the new med combo (mind fog is the biggest problem during the adjustment period) I wish your nephew peace.
Thanks DontAsk.
looks up gut health and B vitamin deficiencies in relation to mental health...
Thank you:)
NP fren. hope it helps!
I have no expertise when it comes to bipolar but as a believer in Jesus Christ and as a complete skeptic in the medical profession, my advice would be:
I know you were looking for something "more tangible" but to me being saved, walking with Jesus and knowing that I have an eternal future in heaven with Him is the best advice I could ever give to someone.
I have said a prayer for you and your nephew. God bless you.
Thank you! and God bless:)

I had a sister that was schizophrenic and we treated her in the 70's with orthomolecular psychiatry...centered around mega doses of B3...she successfully lived with no further flipping out until her death in 1992 from breast cancer. William J. Walsh, PhD continued the work of Abram Hoffer on holistic ways to treat brain disorders. He wrote a book Nutrient Power...Heal Your Biochemistry and Heal Your Brain. He has a clinic in Illinois but he has trained doctors throughout the country on his protocols. It is quite interesting and very successful...
My son is bi-polar...he is stuck in the manic cycle most of the time...I made an essential oil blend of 1/3 Cedarwood, 1/3 Frankincense (Boswellia Carterii), and 1/3 Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) per Dr. Scott A. Johnson from his book Evidence Based Essential Oil Therapy. He takes a drop under his tongue in the am and the pm and it helps with the attention span and many of the symptoms of the mania. You must use quality oils to be taken internally and you can take more than two times a day if necessary. I recommend those from Pacific Insitute of Aromatherapy (Dr. Schnaubelt) using Original Swiss Aromatics or Florihana oils from France found at Healthy Traditions. The point is to get a good quality essential oil for internal usage.
There are homeopathics available for brain dysfunction as well as Bach Flower remedies for emotional states but a certain amount of knowledge is needed to utilize the right remedies, so a naturopath or homeopath would be helpful here.
Dr. Amen has clinics throughout the US and he utilizes brain scans to correct brain dysfunction. He has many good videos and books which have a lot of great information. His clinics are costly, but he has done a ton of work on correcting brain dysfunction. There are so many different alternative therapies available that are good choices when you want to get off the drugs and try something else. Be sure to come off any drugs slowly...do your research...psychotropic drugs are very tricky and it must be done slowly...do your research...the info is out there.
I wish you luck...I will say all disease starts in the colon so improving your gut biome is essential. Then check out Vitamin D status...should be around 70 ng/mL...and need to add vitamin K. There are just so many good herbs and vitamins that have to do with brain health...primary is a good high dose B complex...it makes for very interesting reading to research this important aspect of health...hope all your research yields an answer for your nephew. Believe me I can sympathize with this...
Thank you so much. I am sure he will be interested in many of the things you have told us. As I suspected, much research is needed too;) Thanks again and God bless:)
