There's almost no daylight policy-wise between Trump and libertarians.
The stuff they agree on is a huge long list. The stuff they disagree on is a tiny thimbleful.
There was a gang of classless baboons at that rally, egos on parade, who didn't even grasp in their tiny brains the privilege they had to see Donald Trump speak live to their little group.
The smart ones will go home and do exactly as they were told, and vote for Trump.
The libertarian party is notorious for not being able to get a coherent platform together. This speech took place under a huge banner that read “become ungovernable”. Expecting to get any kind of united political action together with a group of people who see that as primary is never going to be a workable political strategy. Not even criticizing, just pointing it out. Extremely interesting that Trump spoke to them.
And this is the Libertarians' value proposition. They are not a party constructed to lead; they are not a party designed to govern. If their leadership were crafty, they would start by securing seats on school boards and become city aldermen. Then county govt. Then move up, maybe get a state rep or two, a state senator, a governor, and on up the line. Instead, they always try only the one single tactic they have, which has never worked and can never work: Running only for president, getting a crappy 3% or so, and then slinking off into the shadows for another four years.
Libertarians (uppercase L) are not suited to govern: Taken to its logical extreme, we would need virtually no govt if everyone were ideally libertarian.
This is a party best suited to critique and complain about how the ruling party is doing things, ruining govt., growing it too large, oppressing the people, infringing on personal freedoms, etc.
Trump has balls of concrete to stand before their national convention and exhort them to vote for him instead of their actual candidate (to be fair, a literal face-diapering, antisocial-distancing, commie faggot).

I guess it's kind of hard to make a platform when your only policy goal is to let everyone do their own thing and reap their own rewards or suffer the consequences of their own failures.
Actually there's solid policies that could be made from that, like end corporate welfare, lower corporate taxes, lower income taxes, claw back from the welfare state, etc.
The problem is the Libertarians in Washington are likely as corrupt as the DNC, RNC, and the "Think" Tanks that work with them, they've just never gotten to a size to demonstrate it. Just more grifters.
I mean the Libertarian party and their predecessor parties have never been overly fond of the rest of the right. As their ideas conflict as much as they align on various topics.
It was wishful thinking to think the National Party and the people who care enough to physically show up at it’s National convention. Would be on board. They’re more likely to be the hardliners.
What I think Trumps goal in showing up was. Was to target the Orphan Voters and Protest Voters who joined the Libertarians the past few years. Especially those watching online. They aren’t necessarily party hardliners and blind ideologues. And may in fact toss their support behind someone with a plan who aligns with enough of their values to be tolerable to vote for. Even he doesn’t meet every box on their checklist.
I’m very interested in Justin Amash’s sudden drop out of the 2020 election cycle. That seemed potentially Q-y to me, given that he was the most transparent legislator I ever heard of.
Libertarian Party is a good concept but the problem is they have no party lines or issues they all stand for. A bunch of free thinkers with different opinions leads to chaos and disruption. It will never be taken seriously.
After 52 years of existence, it has never been taken seriously. There was some promise at the beginning with credible presidential candidates, but the anarchists swarmed over the Party and they are simply anti-government, so the Party became a non-starter. This was evident to me when the LP was totally absent on controversies surrounding 2nd Amendment issues. Lots of talk, but no walk. And a conception of foreign policy that was essentially childish.
Libertarians are for freedom but then they deny good and evil exists and deny Christianity.
Hmm.. the closest in history is the Democratic Party. Somehow they have gathered Christian’s and evil doers together under one banner using hate and fear as a control tool.
The libertarians cannot do the same thing effectively.
They have no backbone to evil and yet they will mock good as unneeded in their attempt at becoming Trusted.
In a sense they are blown around as the wind blows to and fro and they in their hearts believe that is good.
