I lived in the Bay Area for 1 year (where this truancy program started under Kamala). My son was in Kindergarten and the top of his class. I was going to take him out of school for a week to go back to San Diego to wrap up life there. I asked the school for my son's work so we could keep up with his classwork while we were gone. The school told me that if my son missed more than 3 days (I can't remember if it was a semester or a year), they'd call CPS on me and prosecute me for excessive truancy. I had to shorten my trip.
Edit to add: In CA, schools get $35 per day per child -- but only on the days they show up. If too many days of school are missed by the student body on the whole, the school loses its entire funding. Kamala's policies were never about what was best for kids/families, it was about ensuring the schools get their money.

This is disgusting!! I live in California. 8 years ago my stepdaughter was 13 and missed 115 days of school in her freshman year of high school. She lived with her mom at the time who practically let her live with her boyfriend while she refused to show up for her visitation with her dad (because dad won’t let her spend the night at her BF’s) My husband took the mom to court, spoke to the principal at the HS and begged them to do something. He had all the receipts and even pictures from his daughter’s instagram showing she was smoking pot on the beach. They refused to do anything..! Said there was nothing they could do and the judge completely sided with the mom (as they do here in CA) Now our stepdaughter hasn’t spoken to us since because she was brainwashed so bad to believe her mom did nothing wrong and we were bad for “making a big deal” out of this. Last I saw her instagram was full of BLM and LGTBQ + Trump hating posts. Prime example of how California treats kids from divorced families.
That is at least a 2,000 lb boom and maybe a MOAB. That may turn a lot of black women voters and some more independents.
