There isn't just one antichrist, John in 1 John 2:18 says there are many and they have already come. It's not a position held by one being at a specific time but it's a timeless frame of mind and it's a terrible way to be.

But I've heard the antichrist will bring peace and prosperity before ultimately leading many away from God. And that he will essentially have an entourage. So many things seem to be coming to a head.

Probably one of the best New Testament Commentary's that I would recommend is called "New Testament Commentary" by Jim Sheerer. It's a big book and 60 dollars but I have had my copy since 2011 and I still use it to this day.
He purposefully wanted to make a commentary that's very easy to understand unlike others that I have (Adam Clarke, Matthew Henry, David Lipscomb, Moses E. Lard, and H. Leo Boles) which were written much earlier (some I have even 1880's)
