Deuteronomy 23:19-20 Do not charge a fellow Israelite interest, whether on money or food or anything else that may earn interest. You may charge a foreigner interest, but not a fellow Israelite, so that the LORD your God may bless you in everything you put your hand to in the land you are entering to possess.
[They] still are, and we allowed them to rule over us by doing several things that the Bible promises to result in curses being enacted on a people.
There’s lists of curses all over the OT, and a quick perusal will alert the reader that we are under a lot of them, and that the repentance is for the believer, not the unbeliever.
“Yet if my people, who are called by My Name, will repent and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from Heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”
one of my favorites verses🐸 and that makes sense, would explain why Q talks about 'spells'. and of course there's the 'Kennedy curse'. I think all the grieving, etc, really changed the world; like 911...
i was thinking about the way the Bible verse was phrased. like we're the foreigners because it's Their evil world, like when the devil offers the world to Jesus...

cult/club. reminds me of an exclusive club where members get benefits and others are excluded and taken advantage of. some clubs are not to be envied as they are evil.
A club ,like Freemasons or Scientology, has different membership levels. For the lower levels they are as much the victims of the psychological operation as are the unaffiliated. But are brought in a little to provide useful idiot cover for the Main Characters. {cult: a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion.}
Israelite, of the Biblical variety, and it’s done through faithful obedience to God.
Because Christians largely think that the “Old” Covenant is done away with though, thanks to lots of false teaching, we don’t bother with this kind of thing.
“It’s legalistic”.
Jesus followed every command that applied to him, perfectly. Nobody denies that. Then we mindlessly repeat, “WWJD?” and either conclude, “not follow the law” or “not follow the law anymore” and lose a great deal of insight and blessing in that process.
u/SwampRangers, I’d really like to put a lengthy apologetics post together on this. Have had it as a goal for several years, now.
No, that ping missed me. Here is an example where the recipient ("borrower") pays back return on his investment in lieu of interest in the same amount as traditional interest, but because the relationship is formally different it is regarded as not interest.
If there were zero return on investment paid back to the investor ("lender"), it wouldn't be an investment and wouldn't qualify for the halakhah (according to search), so there is always a return payment above the money transferred. To call it "zero-interest" does not imply that the recipient pays back the same amount received.
Any nation that dislikes interest is free to structure payment-repayment arrangements ("loans") as investment-return arrangements instead. If we decided to do this, we would not be the foreigners; but there's no major movement outside of Judaism interested in doing so. However, observant Jews practice the heter iska for the purpose of keeping their consciences clear in a foreign land (which other people-groups are free to do too). (u/sueanon2017)
Yes, Jesus would not usure a brother (Deut. 23:19-20), and I suspect any who came to him would become brothers by doing so; that's how he transcends Torah by finding ways to both honor it and not dishonor the fellow man.
Let me know if I missed something by not watching the video.
I meant more of a apologetics post on the wider concept of observing the OT.
119 made some very good arguments years ago, but I don’t have anything good as a go-to, long form or memetic, or remember where those particular videos are.
Posted Tom Bradford to /Christianity today, btw.
Trying to subvert the adversary’s use of subversion to subvert the subverted back into the unsubverted - as wily as the serpent but as harmless as the dove. Think mirror. Kek.
Hmmm ... looking into Hebrew-roots Christians will find some communities that seek to keep Torah the way Jesus kept it, but there are also full legalists (Judaizers) going by the same name and requiring great discernment to tell between them. There are a number of minor differences between Rabbinical Judaism and Hebrew-roots Christianity even when both try to follow Torah, which basically means there are two or more halakhoth. For instance, Jews are required by the rabbis to light Sabbath candles and to observe the Feast of Lots, Christians are not required; Jews always celebrate Firstfruits on the 16th of the moon, Christians are not required and typically celebrate it on the nearest Sunday; Jews have a hierarchy for determing kashruth, and don't mix milk and meat, Christians are not required and generally judge kashruth by their gut feeling. When these differences are fully acknowledged then using Jewish sources with a grain of salt is the best way to compile practices.
Thanks for your contribs! I'm more "subversive as hell" than Dr. Seuss said he was.
Definitely not onboard with the legalist approach. I’ve got a few onboard toward the Jesus method, but it’s suuuucchhh aaa loooooonnnnggg prooocceesssss.
Almost like you gotta love your neighbor and practice longsuffering patience.
I just want a bottle of evangelistic advil. One stop shop baby.
A Heter Iska is a Jewish religious document that allows a lender and borrower to comply with Jewish law that prohibits the payment or collection of interest on loans between Jewish people.
The term translates to "partnership clause".
A Heter Iska restructures a loan as an investment partnership, with the lender becoming the investor and the borrower becoming the manager. The lender and borrower share profits and losses, and the borrower pays the lender their share of the profits instead of interest.
Here are some things to know about Heter Iska:
It's a centuries-old practice.
It's an addendum to other lending documents.
It requires the investor and recipient to orally agree to the terms of the Heter Iska before signing any loan documents.
The investor must give the recipient $1 as wages for their labor.
The Heter Iska must be filled out completely and signed by the investor and recipient in the presence of a witness.
The witness must be valid according to the state where the Heter Iska is signed.
if we tried to give low interest loans, we'd be sued for racism etc. I'd still rather be a poor gentile than a parasite...

Edit: spelling
Christians should be doing this, too.
For the record. Commanded by God.
thanks for sharing^
so are we the 'foreigner'...in America? maybe they 'own' it?...

No weapon are the foreigners here on earth.
We are not of this world but of the Kingdom of heaven. Which supercedes the kingdoms of satan by the way who is in charge of all worldly kingdoms.
In this world but not of it.
Maybe ?
yes for sure, didn't explain well.

Thomas Jefferson was amazing, and one of my favorite Ben Franklin quotes. I think it was a challenge to see who's worthy of being 'American'

How do I become a Semite? 🤔

KEK, I’ll have to get myself a little hat.
Your mother needs to be one.
they say that, but in reality, even if your father is one, they will consider you in the club...
That is Cult not "club" .
The psyop is broadly used.

well, they are not small enough to be considered a cult, I do not think.
by the way, where is the goak that you are a stand in for?
Large cults want people to believe that only the new (small) are cults.
It's a methodology not a measure.
A control methodology. Some use something a simple as 'Simon Says' to get everyone to stand, kneel ,sit on command.

‘Dasting, but I was merely joking about the money changer variety, of whom Jesus threw out of the temple.
Mag768720 has some interesting posts about who those people might actually be.
I don’t know if he’s right, but it’s worth looking up and digging into. His posts definitely made it into my options to keep an eye out for.
👍Thank you, fren.

Here are some things to know about Heter Iska:
Some people think of Jews when they think of semites, but Arabs are also semites. I wonder if they know about this loophole.
Using "semites" when meaning Jews is really cultural appropriation.
When you think about it:
Crazy eh, how they just stole the term "semite"
The original Hebrews were Semites, but not the converted Khazarians, who are the overwhelming majority of those practicing Judaism today.
