And yet no explanation about who managed, authorized approved the expenditure or who funded such a waste in the first place. Nor is there anybody fired for it.
Or more importantly, who owns these properties and what is their connection to the civil service?

I think you have to look at it like this:
The administration is massive and no one person or group has an overview (it takes Elon and his autist army to acquire that knowledge). That means people are hired and fired, and sometimes the firing is so fast, that no transfer of knowledge occurs. Perhaps someone that acquired a building and he/she was suddenly fired. In that case no one might even know of the new building, it is now just part of the administration, sitting in some bookkeeping.
I am not saying that is how it is, just that Occams Razor says that rather than it being caused by malice, it is more likely that this is just caused from oversight, indifference or incompetence.
I wouldn't even necessarily say fired. Could be someone got promoted and the replacement wasn't hired on or trained until after the other person already moved on. Happens all the time. Or someone could have quit as well. Very rare for government employees to get fired.
How about Congress? Or is Mike Johnson's lame explanation that they couldn't get the information to stop the waste, fraud and abuse enough ?

One of the dangers when a Politician is successfully Blackmailed, they will sign crazy long leases that rob the Tax Payers and enrich the corrupted class even more. It would be Interesting to see the list of originals owners to the buildings when the leases were signed. You can instantly sell a building for big money if it includes a longterm Government Lease. Then they have more insta capital to buy a bigger office building and repeat the same Blackmail Scheme.
Wonder if there are tunnels underneath these “empty” buildings. Just a random thought.

I would bet that a lot of the space was in Crystal City and Tyson Corners. Two real high rent districts. They have been doing this for a long time. I believe that a lot more were going to be empty no matter what, because much of the swamp draining took place during the pause. The current contestants didn’t realize people were disappearing because they never went to the office.
Hmm. That is an interesting theory - maybe a lot of low hanging fruit was already picked off and no one in the office to know it.
The buildings are probably owned by Blackrock and were being paid off and used to occupy the market at the tax payers expense. It makes me wonder in all the single family homes they bought up will now get foreclosed on like a South African electricity shut off...

10-20 year leases were typical pre-plandemic. What's interesting is the number of new long-term leases signed during and after that time when so many fed employees were not working in the office.
What's more is that the % occupancy field has been removed, even though the file description says it's included. Compare the current spreadsheet with an archived file. Looks like the occupancy field was removed on the May 2023 file.
Just more corporate socialism being cleaned up.
If you own one of those buildings it's a great deal. Those people were all connected, bet on it.

This makes me wonder if the govt has actually become as bloated as we believe, or if a lot of it was already automated and hidden well enough that The People would never have known if not for Trump and Musk.

Hopefully the leases were cancellable without penalties or a buyout of the remaining lease term.
