I normally almost always agree with Ron Paul.. but when other countries put tariffs on us, we have every right to stick a big fat tariff on them. Also, we have every right to use tariffs for strategic industries or protection for when other countries will sell at a loss in order to corner an industry - like China with solar panels.
Yeah, after that video I think I'm completely done with Ron Paul. Clearly he's company profits > Citizens. I spent years thinking this guy put citizens first, but it's clear
Plus the reason Trump is so successful is he knows HOW FUCKING POWERFUL WE ARE. We have leverage in almost every situation possible. Ron is arguing from a place as if America is weak and has to tiptoe around negotiations. Trump knows how to negotiate, other nations despite the lip service, always eventually cave to us.
And the OVERARCHING SOLUTION is for us to be far more self dependent.
This is where I part ways with Ron Paul and the Libertarians. There's no reality where everyone can just do anything they like, harming the majority of American people, with no control at all.
Economics is just like war. If foreigners came marching into our land and shooting people, would that be OK? If not, then why is it OK for foreigners to come into our land, undercut our manufacturing base and steal all our jobs?
Maybe in a different time, where people were mostly independent and resiliency was the order of the day, the economy wouldn't be so critical to survival. But in the world we live in today, cheap foreign labor and goods are just as deadly to our ability to survive as a bullet.
The Libertarian philosophy is not OK in this instance.
I know you all love the guy and no one wants to hear this about heroes. Controlled opposition. Yes, going way back. Now it's his turn to attack obvious common sense and how this country was funded in the past.
Just as there is international socialism ( better known as communism) and national socialism, so too, there is national and international libertarianism.
The international part never works, because, it makes the nation-state, so the right to local government dysfunctional. By the same token private property can be invaded, squatted abused by anyone.
If you want to do something in someone else's home, you first ask permission and consider the costs of doing so.
For all the good he's done, one this thing, I respectfully disagree with Ron.
Why did prices not climb in first term, when DJT put tariffs on China?
I think the tariffs are another masterful troll to even the playing field and bring production back to the US. Eventually, I think we will have a national sales tax or VAT. If we can support our government with tariffs that would be epic. Hate to say it but we may just have to see what happens.
In a modern society, the money to pay for communally used services has to come from somewhere. You know, the Police, Fire Service, Military, etc.
So where does Paul think this money comes from?
I don't know if he does have a solution for that?
Another thing, by not paying Income tax, people will have more money in their pocket, to be able to afford those luxury, exotic or items otherwise unavailable except by importation.
Every country should be producing as much of its own needs as possible. Other items should be if possible, secondary needs, nice to haves. Or where you cannot produce it and that is where you negotiate with countries on reciprocal tariffs. (I got something you want, and you got something I want!).
People with spare cash, can afford to pay more for imported goods. Those with less income, should still be able to get by comfortably with a good standard of living, purchasing local, nationally produced goods and services.
Leading to another pet hate of mine, International Telesales centres, Tariff the shit out of those companies that offshore jobs like that overseas!

Found the retard.
Have you even looked at what libertarian principles are? Not talking about antifa(gs), but Austrian ancap economics based on praxeology.
TAXES are theft. Fixed that for you, Ron
And tarrifs are taxes.

Sure, so other countries are robbing us. What do you propose we do about that, Ron?
He would free market the shit out of the US, no taxes on anything and then the citizens of the country would outcompete everyone else.

Well said. There does have to be a line.
I love Ron Paul and believe strongly in Liberty.
However, there are some areas where you can not allow complete freedom to do anything.
Common sense means regulations are necessary to create fairness and harmony.
Complete de-regulation means the wolves snap at everything in their path.
Sadly, the world is not a high trust society.
Tariffs are theft, but taxes on us are not. Whose side are these people on?

Punching someone in the face is bad.
Punching them back is also bad but, hey, waddya gonna do?
With all the shit we get 'made in China' we should knock down the national debt easy with China tarrifs alone

So it's okay Ron if other countries place tariffs on our goods and services, just so we don't place tariffs on their goods and services? Gotcha.
