as a side note, neither Vietnam nor China is showing by developing bases / outposts on the Spratly Islands that they think oceans will rise anytime soon and cover up these low-lying rocks.
They got quiet when they had the shit kicked out of them after America gave up on the French colony. Ho just wanted VN for Vietnamese , so he went where he could get help and it looks like he was right.
While in the Philippines this past Christmas, I bought 4 pullover shirts from a Japanese store that were made in Vietnam 2 at 5 bucks and 2 at 7 bucks, all good quality. Vietnam. produces better quality than China in many categories, good for them if they make a deal.
Vietnam has a lot of investment via the Chinese and other Asian countries. The Chinese setup a logistical supply line from China into Vietnam to produce goods to import into the U.S. as an alternative to direct from China. It washes their goods somewhat. The manufacturers do have to prove chain of custody but I’m sure raw materials that are from china still get through without tariffs.
Vietnam has been in China's shadow and dominated by them for its entire existence. It has never been in control of its own fate. If given leverage against China, Vietnam will use it.
The shift occurred when the president of North Korea introduced Trump to the president of Vietnam during trumps first term. Our company that had done lots of business with China for packaging material shifted at that point to Vietnam for materials. It was at that point we saw China's declining reach. China has been spiraling for over 5 years. The current economic numbers could not have happened in just the time trump has been back in office.
Vietnam economy will have a yuge surge, as alternative to the Chinese market.
If they quit the communist BS sure otherwise they are putting off the inevitable
We finally won the Vietnam War!

just finished listening to David Nino interview Larry Ballard in a first of 2 or 3 series on tariffs and rebuilding USA manufacturing. Ballard sees wins n the USA as AI robotics patents owned by USA corporations will be utilized in the USA rather than in China or other Asian nations.
