I never really liked any of their films except for the matrix, and the animatrix. Their other live-action matrix films got worse and worse, but all of their other films were trash. When they started doing the trans thing, i think that's when i heard a rumor that they had stolen the story of the matrix and made it their own. I never figured out if it was true or not, but i found the matrix to be (and still remains) a top 10 film of all time, and it seems odd they would have botched all other films, so i figured it could be true.
fwiw I heard the same rumor by someone who was on the fringe of that industry. (Writer who did some smaller projects but left LA and became an attorney). Rumor is these guys found or got possession of the script/story somehow (I can't recall that detail) but only the first film, which is why the sequels, your personal opinions about them aside, were not really as great. And not just that, almost like completely different films in a lot of ways. It's bc they had to continue the story themselves they only had first movie.
I think just about everyone feels the same way about the original Matrix movie vs the two sequels. They just went over the top with them, and forgot all about doing the story and dialogue properly.
