They destroyed a Canadian Company called Nortel by stealing all their trade secrets. My Step Grandfather lost $1 million in equity when $1 million was enough to buy 5 houses in Canada.
What is the root cause for moving all the manufacturing to China? It just seems like a ridiculous move for any company. The fact that they have been making our phones is mindboggling. Is it all for the slave labor and to increase profits? Or did the politicians push/force them in a way?
Low cost labor, cheap supply chains, favorable trade agreements, and probably a lot of tax incentives. Corporate executives and wall street got rich doing it. We all knew they were lying about things - they didn't care as long as the bonuses rolled in. Clinton and the congress critters were getting rich as well, so they sure as hell weren't going to stop it.
Saw gun dealers do something similar. Nearly all of them I talked to in the 90's strongly supported liberal anti-2A democrats. That's not exactly what they said, but they all seemed to support stricter gun laws and complained about the uncontrolled kitchen table FFL dealers - all because they wanted to limit the number of FFL holders and attach their fees to every firearm transfer, and they didn't care if it was grandpa's old and nearly worthless shotgun going to one of the grand kids.
I read a while ago, or heard, that China had to put a lot of people to work and really didn't have a lot for the people to do. So if they could steal our technology and our companies, it would give their people someone to make. It could have or maybe is that simple. Do I know, no. But business men put a lot of companies there.
Which is a feature if those who control/own the money system want to destroy the old Ponzi money system to start a new one and use the destruction of the country to hide the real perpetrators.
I worked in transportation / shipping back then, and during one of the debates they were talking about our trade deficit with Japan and what was Clinton going to do about it? I kept yelling at the TV "no, China!". I saw it becoming an issue that long ago. 🙄
During the Clinton presidency, we refused to buy anything made in China. Then we would buy only stuff made in USA. Then that became impractical and difficult.
I was doing some design work at the time and the electronics industry was leaving the country in droves. I needed high quality components and could specify them, but you could see the trends and they weren't good for our electronics industries.
By 1960 the Japanese had taken much of American Toy industry. And was starting on the "Transistor Radios" . Even before WW 2 they were doing our steel recycling so this trend goes back to even earlier.
It wasn't long ago when every video clip on TV showed the Chinese peddling everywhere on bicycles. I wonder how they got to be the China they are now so quickly.
My experience is that Asians are very good at math, engineering, and things that required established knowledge and procedures, but don't seem very good at independent, innovative, thought. (i.e., they can't come up with new technology; dynamite and other things may have been invented long ago in China, but modern Asians don't seem to have that ability)
It's true. Look at the Chinese car brands, they are all clearly knockoffs of other cars. The most they innovative is taking 2 different cars and making one but you can still totally tell.
I remember reading something maybe 20 years ago that talking about how the Japs, and Chinese, the oriental race was not good at innovation, at inventing/creating things, I guess you could put it. That most innovative technologies, most inventions came from the Anglo-Saxon race.
If I recall correctly, the article indicated that the Orientals were good at reverse engineering things, copying things, that they stole from West, but incapable to major innovative thought. Now granted this limit may not be entirely the fault of the Oriental mind, but my be also a limit created by a communist system of government, I don't know.
I believe this to be true, and I suspect that if the West can stop the flow of technologies that to the Chinaman, that they will fall behind in cutting edge sh1t.

I actually worked for them after they declared bankruptcy. They were absolutely picked clean, right to the bone, literally like whale ribs
Yes it was “hwawei”
good ol' (forced) "TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER"
This is a BS concept that has been pushed in academic journals for the last 30 years. Unfortunately it was a successful ploy.
The Clinton's made bank on giving China the most favored nation status, and kicking off the manufacturing transfer.

Regulation/cost of doing business sent the companies there because inflation had made America/Americans too expensive.
The regulations is a very good point. Just like the EPA and CAFE rules forced expensive and troublesome cars into the market.
I think we all want clean air and water, but not at the expense of polluting the planet in another country without regulations.
Yes but isn't that a national security threat in a lot of ways? Apple has become a monopoly at this point.

Espionage and crimes against humanity.

Maybe they don't see the point in going to the Moon...or Mars. Not suggesting that anyone ever has.
The Great A-reckoning.
THEY DONT EVEN SHOW A SHRED OF APPRECIATION
I want our land back
Native American?
Homogeneous groups cannot compete with us!

Weren't the Google big shots over there several years back sharing all their technology with China? Did Q post something about that?
