Exactly! I do own some select-fire assault rifles but most of the general public doesn't. What most people own is simply a semi-automatic rifle. The shape of the furniture and what someone hangs on it has nothing to do with the firing mechanics. You can dress an AR15 or AK47 up anyway you want, but unless it's a select-fire weapon it's simply a semi-automatic rifle.

As the Shooter apparently obtained a Conceal Carry permit from Las Vegas Police. And also made it through several background checks. Several of which would be more invasive than others. While actively being treated for Mental Illness. If the preliminary reports and prescription pills they allegedly found in his vehicle are any indication.

Even if it ever passed judicial review and was not found unconstitutional, the fact that so many millions of gun owners have at least one "assault weapon" (whatever that is), but most have multiple guns she puts in that category. I know one guy who has six AR-15s, two AR-10s, and assorted other long guns.
