Seriously? You couldnt be more wrong. Howard hughs used mormons as security, the intelligence field is loaded with them, cops and military participation, they even went to war with the u.s. calvary. I dont care for their religion but i know plenty of them and theyve got as many people willing to fight as any demographic. Go play a game of basketball with them. Then tell me you feel the same

Mormon. Not Christian.

▲ 10 ▼

Correct.

Mormonism is not Christianity. They claim the Bible has been corrupted among other beliefs outside of historic, biblical Christianity:

  1. View of God – They deny the biblical doctrine of one eternal, unchanging God (Deut. 6:4; Isa. 43:10). Instead, they teach that God was once a man who progressed to godhood.

  2. Polytheism – They affirm an unlimited number of gods. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are seen as separate beings, not one essence.

  3. Exaltation of Man – They teach that faithful Mormons can become gods themselves (“As man is, God once was; as God is, man may become”). This is diametrically opposed to biblical teaching (Isa. 45:5; 1 Tim. 2:5).

  4. Christology – They reject the eternal deity of Christ as coequal with the Father. Jesus is viewed as the literal spirit-child of the Father (and a brother of Lucifer).

  5. Salvation by Works – Grace is said to play a role, but ultimate salvation (exaltation to godhood) is achieved through temple rituals, obedience, and ordinances. This contradicts salvation by grace alone through faith alone (Eph. 2:8–9).

  6. Authority of Revelation – They place the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price alongside (and often above) the Bible, undermining the sufficiency of Scripture.

Mormonism denies the one true God, the person and work of Christ, and the biblical gospel of salvation by grace through faith. It replaces them with polytheism, human exaltation, and works-righteousness.

Basically if the Old testament is Star wars A New Hope, and the New testament is empire strikes back, The book of Mormon claims to be Return of the Jedi but really it's just Spaceballs.

I still thank them for that.

But your above points remain. I hope one day they see the true light.

You may be right about number 2 but all the other points seem way off.

The Mormons do believe that God, his son, and the holy ghost are all separate spirits.

"unlimited number of gods" is not the case though.

Listen son, I know what I'm talking about. I'm in Mesa Arizona and my church goes and just Street evangelism at the Mormon Temple every year. We have converted multiple Mormons to Christianity. Our YouTube channel is filled with conversations and discussions with Mormons over the gospel.

I'll go ahead and address your points though since the modern Mormon church tries to hide and obscure what they actually believe:

  1. Trinity vs. Mormon view: Yes, Mormons teach that the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are three separate beings. But that’s not a small side detail—it is a direct denial of the historic Christian doctrine of the Trinity, which says one God in three persons. To say they’re separate beings is not Christianity, it’s tri-theism.

  2. Unlimited gods: It is the case that Mormonism affirms a plurality of gods. Joseph Smith himself taught:

“I will preach on the plurality of Gods… it is a great subject.” (History of the Church 6:474)

“In the beginning, the head of the Gods called a council of the Gods.” (6:475) Mormons believe Heavenly Father himself was once a man who became a god, and faithful Mormons can become gods of their own worlds. That necessarily implies an open-ended, potentially unlimited number of gods.

  1. Why it matters: Even if an individual Mormon insists they “only worship one God,” their theology explicitly allows for an eternal genealogy of gods before Heavenly Father and an eternal multiplication of gods after. That’s not biblical monotheism. They believe they will become God's one day, like all gods before them. That's an infinite regression of gods. That makes them the most polytheistic religion in the world.

Mormons don’t just see the Father, Son, and Spirit as distinct persons within the one Godhead; they see them as three separate gods, and their doctrine of exaltation necessarily teaches an endless plurality of gods. That’s why Mormonism isn’t just a “different denomination” it’s a fundamentally different religion.

Mormons don't believe Christians are saved and Christians don't believe Mormons are saved. Why? Fundamental salvific issues and doctrinal differences. Joseph Smith said he started the Mormon church because God told him that there were no true Churches and all of our teachings were an abomination.

Christians recognize that he's a convicted con artist and a false prophet because he's had many failed prophecies and teaches people things to go against scripture.

You seem like you're splitting hairs along the English language. To say that God, his son Jesus, and the Holy Ghost are all one being doesn't make sense. The Mormon Church has something they call the Bishop Bric in each ward. That's made up of the Bishop, his 1st counselor, and his 2nd counselor. Even though it's a Bishop Bric, they are all three separate people.

Ah, yes. The old “God is like a Bishopric” analogy. That’s a bit like saying the Trinity is just three guys in matching suits who share an office. Cute, but woefully inadequate.

The problem is this: the Bible doesn’t say “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our Gods, the Lord is a committee.” It says the Lord is one. If your analogy reduces the Creator of heaven and earth to the rough equivalent of a PTA board, then you’ve already shown your theology belongs in the sandbox, not the sanctuary.

And as for the claim that “one being, three persons” doesn’t make sense, that’s exactly the point. Of course the infinite God is beyond your neat little filing system of “makes sense to me.” If God were no bigger than your capacity to diagram Him on a chalkboard, He wouldn’t be God. The biblical Trinity isn’t an arbitrary puzzle; it’s the only way to affirm that God is one, that the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Spirit is God, all without slipping into polytheism.

Mormonism solves the mystery by throwing the truth overboard. They trade monotheism for tri-theism, and then act like it’s just good plain common sense. But saying “God is like a Bishopric” is about as theologically helpful as saying “marriage is like three bachelors living together.” The analogy explains nothing; it only reveals the bankruptcy of the system.

I'm not splitting hairs. This is basic apologetics for dealing with mormons. Something I have done hundreds and hundreds of times.

How many times have you had discussions, debates, or given the gospel to Mormons exactly?

I got good at this because I did it so much along with other brothers from my church.

I feel like this is an area where you should be asking questions, not making assertions. That's how you gain wisdom.

I've heard other Christian denominations talk about God and his son as being two separate people. The Mormons aren't the only ones. They'll say stuff like God sent his only begotten son down to die on the cross for all of our sins. They'll say the God, the son, and the holy ghost make up the holy trinity. From my experience of visiting several different Christian churches, is that they all seem to have similar beliefs. The only thing different about the Mormons is they believe that a family left Jerusalem back in 600BC to go to America and that's what the Book Of Mormon is based on. I'd suggest that you read the book before formulating an opinion on it. For example: I have never read the Quran; therefore I have no opinion on it.

▲ 4 ▼
– BakasEverywhere 4 points 267 days ago +4 / -0

Well, personally I've had issues understanding the Trinity myself, because strictly speaking, if it was true, then God committed suicide when Jesus died on the cross.

It also brings into question how much of a sacrifice Jesus actually made if he and God are the same, seeing as how he would have known he wouldn't stay dead....

But, 🤷‍♀️. I'm no theologian.

You’ve managed to stack misunderstandings like cordwood, and I’ll go ahead and light the match.

First, when historic Christian churches talk about the Father sending the Son, they are not saying “two separate beings.” They are distinguishing persons within the one being of God. That’s not hair-splitting, that’s the creedal backbone of Christianity going back to Nicaea. If you can’t tell the difference between Trinitarian orthodoxy and Mormon tri-theism, then you’re like someone who can’t tell the difference between a steak and a cardboard cutout of a cow.

Second, the notion that the “only” difference between Mormons and Christians is a family hopping on a boat to America is like saying the only difference between whiskey and turpentine is the label on the bottle. No, the difference is lethal. Mormonism teaches a different God, a different Christ, and a different gospel. That’s not a side story; that’s the main story.

Third, “read the book before you criticize it” sounds very pious, but it’s also very silly. I don’t need to drink bleach before concluding it’s not orange juice. The Book of Mormon can be weighed and found wanting on historical, theological, and textual grounds without my slogging through every page of it like it’s War and Peace with a bad plot twist.

And finally, the comparison with the Quran doesn’t help your case. I don’t need to be a Koranic scholar to say Islam denies the Trinity, just like I don’t need to memorize the Book of Mormon to know Mormonism denies the one true God. When a system explicitly tells me it rejects the God who says, “Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me,” I don’t need to read their appendix to know we’re not talking about the same faith.

That being said I have read the book of mormon, the pearl of great price, and have books with the teachings of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young that were in sermons.

I, unlike you, I'm not only experienced in this area, but I'm also very well read as well. So much so that many Mormons haven't seen some of the things that I've shown them before.... Much less some stranger on the internet that isn't even a Mormon at all and doesn't do Christian apologetics to Mormons. (That's you)

Here are five direct quotes from Joseph Smith and other LDS leaders that come straight out of their canon or official sermons—passages most Mormons have never read or don’t realize exist. These are the “oh wow” texts that get swept under the rug:

  1. King Follett Discourse (Joseph Smith, 1844) – God was once a man

“God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens! That is the great secret.” (History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 305–306)

  1. Book of Abraham (Pearl of Great Price, ch. 3) – Kolob and strange cosmology

“Kolob is set nigh unto the throne of God, to govern all those planets which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest.” (Book of Abraham 3:9)

  1. Doctrine and Covenants 132:61–62 – Plural wives commanded

“If any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse another, and the first give her consent… then is he justified; he cannot commit adultery with that that belongeth unto him… for they are given unto him to multiply and replenish the earth, according to my commandment.”

  1. Journal of Discourses 1:50–51 (Brigham Young, 1852) – Adam–God Doctrine

“When our father Adam came into the garden of Eden, he came into it with a celestial body… He is our Father and our God, and the only God with whom we have to do.”

  1. Journal of Discourses 4:53 (Brigham Young, 1856) – Blood Atonement

“There are sins that men commit for which they cannot receive forgiveness in this world, or in that which is to come, and if they had their eyes open to see their true condition, they would be perfectly willing to have their blood spilt upon the ground.”

Why this matters

These aren’t fringe crank quotes; they’re from the founder and second prophet of Mormonism and from their canonized texts.

They teach polytheism, man-to-god exaltation, strange cosmology, polygamy as a divine law, and extra-biblical atonement requirements.

Modern LDS missionaries never bring these up, but historically they were taught as binding doctrine.

▲ 2 ▼
– MichaelConservative 2 points 267 days ago +2 / -0

Yeah, you’re going to need to drop some sort of proof beyond whatever that was. The Bible is very clear on the trinity, which is why it’s doctrinal.

Jesus’s baptism: God says this is my Son in whom I’m well pleased. Then the Spirit descended on him like a dove. Genesis 2: Let us make man in OUR image. Jacob wrestled with God, Moses saw God’s backside of his glory, since no one can see his face and live. Jesus claimed he was the son of man, a title for the messiah, which is why the Jews wanted to kill him. Deuteronomy 6: God is ONE.

All this to say… there is but one God, who is three distinct persons making up one God. This is a mystery to our eyes. That does not make it false. God the father, who sent Jesus, God the son, who left us with the Spirit, God the Holy Spirit. A three corded strand is not easily broken.

There is no other God, there is no revelation beyond John’s final revelation, Book of Revelation as spoken by God himself to John.

The doctrine of Mormonism is also very wishy washy. Soda was forbidden until the “white horse savior” mitt Romney was caught drinking one… uh oh, special revelation, soda is okay. Black people weren’t allowed… uh oh, special revelation for them. How many “special revelations” before that cult falls apart?

I’m not justifying the shooting, which is horrible and sad. Double sad because these people had an opportunity living in the USA to hear the true gospel and turn their hearts to God. And maybe some Mormons who are “shallow-faith” Mormons who don’t follow much of the Mormon tradition and are more aligned with Christianity will be saved. Even if God saves them all, I’m not going to be offended.

But we ought to, while here on earth, earnestly seek to follow God's clearest commands that we can understand by what he has given us, including to test everything according to what God has given us (yes, even the BS meter we have plays a role). I believe the reformed theology drives closest to this, because the pinnacle of their faith is the words of the Bible, and disregarding the tradition of man (in spiritual matters). Man is faulted whereas God is not, which is why I agree with that form of thinking.

If a book is found lacking in evidence of being written by an inspired writer (like the book of Thomas) which contains fairy tales (effectively) of 4 year old Jesus making clay birds that fly and there’s no historical evidence of their existence being tied to the alleged writer, why would that book be considered “canon”? So we need to look with weary eyes on all of these things and put them to the test.

"unlimited number of gods", is the case though, because they believe humans can achieve God-hood. Here's the first verse of the popular Morman hymn "If you could hie to Kolob" :

" If you could hie to Kolob In the twinkling of an eye, And then continue onward With that same speed to fly, Do you think that you could ever, Through all eternity, Find out the generation Where Gods began to be?"

Salvation by works.

I believe that this is the applicable point.

One of the works is the number of progeny that you sire...

There was a fertility doctor some years back who fertilized all his c patients with his own seed in the belief that that would earn him a higher seat in heaven...

Jesus Christ is literally in their name. Mormons believe that God and Jesus Christ are wholly united in their perfect love for us, but that each is a distinct personage with His own perfect, glorified body (see D&C 130:22). Mormons believe that all men and women ever to be born, including Jesus Christ, lived with God as His spirit children before this life.
