HOAs are karen magnets. Karens rise like turds to the top of them, and then they impose their ever changing will on homeowners. They are truly the worst ever.
End HOAs!
The ONLY thing that should be kept is the costs to maintain the shared road. Everything else in your own property, you pay.
I disagree - I believe the city should pay upkeep on their own roads. The land developer should have to pay any road building costs, but once the neighborhood construction is finished, those taxpayers are paying taxes and as such should not also have to pay a HOA to upkeep the roads. Just my opinion (as someone watching my city create one neighborhood after another after another and watching the roads be destroyed by construction vehicles).
What about condos, where a dozen units all share one building foundation?
HOAs are totally lame-o, setting lawn heights and regulating paint colors and junk like that, but I'm not sure how you'd deal with condos and properties that share a lakeside pier, where HOAs seem necessary.
Thank God, this needs to be nationwide. If nothing else HOA fees need to be capped, some of them are absurd, maybe all of them.
My sister will be buying a condo downsizing from her house. HOA fees range from $1300 - $2000 a month based on floor and style.
I remember a couple decades ago a Spanish buddy of mine had a condo and his HOA fee was about the same as his mortgage payment.
Both of these are in the NoVA area. Sister in Falls Church which used to be a nice quaint little town but feels like it's growing into a 15 minute city. And buddy in Arlington, at Columbia Pike & 4 Mile Run.
I can't believe your sister is willing to pay $1300 just for the HOA. But people pay more, there's a unit down the street demanding $2000/month. Like you said, that's a mortgage payment.
Oh that gets me about the new builds, of which we have plenty in Florida. They raze everything to a muddy parking lot, build their OSB houses, then add back in little spindly saplings. I would never buy a home if the yard had no trees.
Yep, very kitschy names they come up with for these places. There's Gaslight Square in Arlington VA. Yep, no gaslighting there...
Actually there is, they have gaslights all through out lol
Cheap, fast, and expensive. I'll likely never buy a house, but I'd love to get a couple acres of woods, maybe some water, and build a shipping container house. I've seen some wicked cool pads build with those, being modular it's easily expanded from a basic start.
You should definitely go for it. A few months ago I saw one on zillow on 5 acres and they were asking over $300k, which is quite a bit considering they're less expensive to make. What I mean is, you get a good return if you ever decide to sell. You also have the benefit of a solid structure. All the new Ryan Homes builds look like toothpicks and particle boards.
I went toe to toe with our HOA after they tried to ban my Trump flag, calling it an "advertising sign". I pointed out that per their rules, no restrictions on flags exist; and a rectangular section of cloth flying from a pole is a flag, not a sign; used Webster's definitions to make them sit down and shut up.
A few months later they convened and literally CHANGED THE RULES, on my account, specifically to ban me from flying any patriotic flag other than US flag.
Then they came after me for my Let's Go Brandon garden flag. Fined me $1000. I refused to pay. I sent them a letter quoting their rule that allows sports team flags: Brandon was referring to Tampa Bay Lightning hockey forward Brandon Hagel. They couldn't prove it wasn't. Changed the rule to prohibit it.
I apologize for leaving my hose across my driveway for 2 days in a row due to the drought we are having and maintaining my lawn to prevent being fined for dead grass.
I, however do not agree with the fine of X dollars imposed for this infraction. I do not believe the neighbors property values were affected by this amount and do not appreciate your self-assessed property valuations as related.
I am sure a court of law will agree with this evaluation of your impropriety and will of course abide by their judgement.
As a result of said impending legal proceedings, consider my HOA dues to be taken out of court costs.
Sincerely,
Never paying you a dime for the next 10 years you obnoxious self-important crazy a** mother f***ers.
Feel free to use this as a template for correspondence to your local HOA. No copyright is or will be claimed.
And, yes, our HOA will fine you for a garden hose left across the driveway for an "extended" period of time... Crazy a** mother f***ers.
I truly hate HOA's. Hope they are banned.

HOA's in their current forms are absolutely not necessary. Lots of options exist to address the problems they try to remedy.
Outlaw them nationwide.

Right because the condo seeks uniformity but not neighborhoods. That’s over the line.

Yeah, I was taken aback myself. Although it's only short term until she retires, it is convenient to her office. But jeez...
What's funny, the building is called The Oak, for the surrounding oak trees and nature. Of which neither are around the building!

Remember the HOA that wouldn’t allow a Trump sign? That’s abuse and infringing on our rights!

They all need to just Karen off into the sunset.
I can’t wait for that. You can’t even put an American flag in your house.,
Why would anyone agree to a HOA? there seems to be lots of downside, and no upside
But how will thw HOA board members make their salaries now? Guess they'll have to raise water and sewer rates.

Might be my tipping point to finally move to Florida if this happens.
Wow, hope that trend spreads
