It's crazy we have to take classes on how to knit, cook, build homes, make cobwebs.. but spiders just know it. How much information is in our DNA we're sleeping on?
I had a problem at a hospital I was working on and my foreman and I were trying to figure out how to solve it. That night I had a dream about how to solve this problem. Next day I explained the plan. He couldn't believe I solved it in a dream.
That's actually how most breakthroughs are figured out. I'm not saying earthshattering but as a cognitive species we harness our intellect to solve problems. Our subconscious takes the order and works the problem nonstop.
Some people need to get out in nature more. Those aren't markers so that a human can see the web better. Those are simply anchor points for new web strands where the spider repaired the damage to it's web from where she walked through it. The spider had to reinforce the attachment points for the new strands so it used more web material there.
You just copied what someone else said on YouTube. And, I disagree.
That web was at face height. She likely walked right through it, ruining it.
Whenever I've walked through a web, I've pulled the whole thing down with the surprise of it and my hands waving around trying to get the thing off me, my face, my hair, etc. I doubt she just pulled 'a few spots apart' and the spider 'repaired and reinforced them'.
No, all I did was watch the video in the post and spend most of my 72 years outdoors. I don't read video comments, too many dumbasses on Screwtube. If someone said what I said they either copied me from here or also understand nature. As for your experience with spider webs, most people don't just start flailing away like a scared child simply because they walk through a spider web. But mainly, not all spider webs are the same. Some will separate easily and some are extremely strong. It all depends on the type of prey that species of spider targets. Some of them you can tear through leaving parts intact. The web in the video is an orb weaver's web, the large yellow Garden Spider is in the orb weaver group. That's the spider I grew up calling the "writing spider" because of the zigzag lines (stabilimenta) in the web. BTW, they don't make those lines so that people will see them and not walk into their webs.
Actually, the sun is simply shining on it at a different angle making it easier to see. In 30 minutes it will be nearly invisible again. Don't believe everything you see on the interweb.
No! Didn't you look at it?? It clearly has an unusual marking pattern on it that I've never seen before and neither had she. Maybe you can't see it on the device you are using. I'm on a 32 in 4k monitor and the web has clear boundary markers that are very unique.
It is just the way the light is hitting it. Maybe I'll watch it again. Bur, it looked like the "markers" moved with the camera angle (in relation to the sunlight angle).
Update: I watched it again. Still looks like its the lighting. And, possibly very slight variations in the thickness of the web, which is a spun liquid silk. Also, just because she didn't see it when she walked through it, doesn't mean that it was less visible or looked any different. How would she know, if she wasnt even looking where she was going?
Traffic cones were clearly a metaphor! But, they say we give off energy and hormones and things that sentient animals and even trees can feel. Why wouldn't spiders?
I've gotten more 'touchy-feely' in recent years and talk to my trees that provide me with fruit and I thank them. I even thank my stove when the timer bell goes off properly.
Funny true story: I was working really late one night on my computer in my downstairs office. I went to use the restroom next to it that has a door to the backyard full of shady trees and grass. When I flicked on the light, there on the floor was a frightened cockroach who froze upon me revealing it. I talked to it and said, "You can't be in here, you have to go outside!" I opened the door to the outside and in a terrified fashion it ran out. I actually felt like I had communicated with it. Probably silly, I know. But nevertheless...
On face value this is amazing. Think what she had to do to realize this. I don't think anyone would realize this and documet it. But in my 50+ years animals seem smarter? Or are we just realizing it?
Omg how do you remove Charlotte? She gets a pass for the entire season because she’s way smarter than most humans. It reminds of the police chalk outline.
It definitely was a male spider
Just think about how much DNA/information God put that little spider to be able to do that. God can CODE really good!

enough to conquer the galaxy as a multi-dimensional lifeform like Q from startrek TNG.

sir, that is standard procedure. go scope out the job early, sleep on it, get it right the first time

Ridiculous!

They might just be construction markers and he'll take them down once he's finished, it's not necessarily because of the human ;)

Traffic cones, that's funny, looks like sewing stitches to me. This is cool. So all of those spiders who scare me, know I have arachnophobia? 😆

It's a good quality to be thankful and show your appreciation.

I think the animals have always been this smart. We are the ones who have been too dumb to notice.

Yes, you can't hurt Charlotte!
Humans are the best.
Animals are dumb. /S

Consciousness playing the role of spider...
I find this an appropriate answer to the discussion. Thank you.
Well... considering all the posts whining about how they can't see the intelligence the spider added to the web... So yanno...
