I hope you can eventually learn to not feel bad for getting a benefit that was designed (or was supposed )to help citizens in need. It's a moral obligation to help our fellow citizens. I do not include the scammers and generational leeches. There is a huge difference between disability and " welfare programs". I know several people on disability and have seen how little help it really amounts to for most. I would like to see the waste fraud and abuse ended and a reformed system with fewer restrictions on those with a disability. End of rant. Best to you.
There is a lot of fraud in SSDI as well. The problem is that this is provided by the government. People with disabilities should be cared for by their families and communities. This also helps to remove fraud as it is much harder to deceive your family and friends than it is the government. This is how it has been done for thousands of years and it worked great. If your family and community don't want to provide for you, then that probably means you don't need it.
You can feel better knowing you were cheated and, had you invested the money they taxed away from you for SS, you'd have a 3x higher payout from interest alone.
