Edit: I just watched this full video... Holy shit. Why would ANYONE install that shit!? I've been on Linux for over a decade so I had no idea how bad it had gotten. Once a user tries Linux Micro$oft will lose them forever. There is no one going from Linux to Windows.
Posting this from a 2010 Macbook Pro running Debian 13, with Openbox as my WM, completely put together piece by piece by yours truly. Slim, lean and MEAN. My one Windows machine is a dual-boot macOS/Win 7 Mini that doesn't talk to the outside world, and is for old school games and emulators.
Just put a 65yo on a new Mac mini ( because of Windows 10), have an 85yo on mint, no worries, pretty hands off for those of us supporting them, just works.
I'm seeing loads of Windows users showing up in Linux forums asking for advice on switching. it seems Microsoft has pushed too far and people are just sick of it. My own son came to me to ask if I could help him install Linux just last week. He's a gamer, so we installed a distro called Bazzite which comes all setup with Steam etc. His games actually run better on Linux.
I went from Win-10 to Mint a couple weeks back. Now also looking at Kodachi 64, a closed gate distro, as a usb-key-only security OS as a supplement.
Major Geeks:
"Kodachi is a 64-bit Linux operating system based on Xubuntu. It will provide you with a secure, anti-forensic, and anonymous operating system considering all features that a person concerned about privacy needs to be secure."
[You will have an] "operating system with an established VPN connection + Tor Connection established + DNScrypt service running. No setup or Linux knowledge is required from your side. It's all been automated for you. **The entire OS is functional from your temporary memory RAM, so once you shut it down, no trace is left behind all your activities are wiped out."**
Of course, if you really want a USB-key startup, you have to start with Arch detached bootstrap. Very funny and a steep learning curve. Meaning there is no disk with an OS, let alone data ....
I have a MS Surface Pro tablet with W 11, I like it. Well, don't mind it.
I had a Surface Go tablet dual booted with Pop_OS with W only getting occasional use but I didn't bother when I upgraded to the Pro.
I do have a gaming laptop I'll stick to 10 on, and an older Dell AIO touchscreen with 10.
For an average user I'm not worried about it, and if you think because you're not running Windows you're not being tracked, all I've got to say is Psh!
Microsoft has pulled a lot of shitty shenanigans with Windows, ME, Vista, 8, switching things around, etc etc. Just make a stable fricking OS and stop stipulating "what users want"!!
One thing I can say in the Mac Vs PC, a few years ago I was doing computer repair at a retail joint. People would bring in their 10 or more year old MacBook to upgrade either memory or SSD. The OS was still the original from Apple and ran rather well. Windows on the other hand starts running like chit after a few years lol
I tend to doubt BG gives a crap what OS people are running, I think MS makes most of their money from business anyway, which they decide what they run.
I hate to be a party pooper, but Windows is not going anywhere. It's the main operating system of businesses in America. It would take at least a decade to get another OS to catch on. Not to mention all the domain management software for servers, 3rd party application support, driver support, etc.
yeah well my buddy works in a 300 employee robotics firm and they are all linux all the time, PCs and robots, sorry to poop on your poop there but things are changing.
the heads of companies that come to the realization that they are sharing company secrets with MS will make things change over time.
its a 300 employee robotics company; that is significant not because it is 300 but it shows that the brightest minds know linux is a better solution. Linux market penetration went from 3.1 to 4.7% in the past 12 months, 150% increase.
Ok, but working in healthcare, business, and with military contractors, I can tell you that they don't give a shit about that because they're more worried about being financially decimated from ransomware attacks and the class-action lawsuits that follows them. Some shady alternative software with vulnerabilities is never going to get approved by system security teams. There's no one that's going to watch some YouTube video and say "well I guess I just have to throw all of this shit away that's been established for decades". They'll modify the OS image to remove the goyslop spyware instead, which is what they've been doing for over 10 years now.
In July 2001,[26] the White House started switching whitehouse.gov to an operating system based on Red Hat Linux and using the Apache HTTP Server.[27] The installation was completed in February 2009.[28][29] In October 2009, the White House servers adopted Drupal, an open-source content management system software distribution.[30][31]
In April 2006, the US Federal Aviation Administration announced that it had completed a migration to Red Hat Enterprise Linux in one third of the scheduled time and about US$15 million under budget. The switch saved a further US$15 million in datacenter operating costs.[32][33]
By 2007, the United States Department of Defense uses Linux - "the U.S. Army is the single largest installed base for Red Hat Linux"[34] and the US Navy nuclear submarine fleet runs on Linux,[35] including their sonar systems.[36]
By 2008, the US National Nuclear Security Administration operates the world's tenth fastest supercomputer, the IBM Roadrunner, which uses Red Hat Enterprise Linux along with Fedora as its operating systems.[37]
In June 2012, the US Navy signed a US$27,883,883 contract with Raytheon to install Linux ground control software for its fleet of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) Northrop Grumman MQ-8 Fire Scout drones. The contract involves Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, which has already spent US$5,175,075 in preparation for the Linux systems.[38]
I'm on Windows 11 right now on my laptop...the damn thang sucks...the screens DO NOT SHRINK to get to the Input Boxes and one cannot change the screen resolution because the DAMN INPUT BOXES STILL WON'T SHOW!!!!
And I've been a WINDOWS PROGRAMMER SINCE WINDOWS 3.0!!!!!!!!!!!!
zorin was ok but puked on my windows virtual machine inside zorin, then went to bazzite, same issues, then I went to nobara and it's been great! Thought i would be running windows 10 in a VM on one screen for months or years while i struggled to switch everything to linux but not needed. A couple apps I thought I would need to keep windows open all the time for have web apps now so i just use em in a browser in Linux, haven't fired up win10 at all for weeks now,
Windows is for sheep.
Lions love Linux!

Best bg is pie in face.
Try Ubuntu, or any other major Linux distributions. Free yourself from the Redmond virus and live happy ever after.

Plausible deniability.

It's been over ten years since I've used a Windows machine. About seven years back, my old Mac laptop died. Been on Linux ever since.

Everyone uses Linux to some extent. A 300 employee company is not going to put a dent in the hundreds of millions of users that rely on the 365 suite.

Sorry, I read everyday but don't log in much. Military examples found easily at wikipedia

I use Zorin on my personal laptop. Very Windows-like.
Originally picked it in case my wife wanted to switch so I didn't have to support multiple linux OSs at home - I do enough of that at work.
But I've grown to like Zorin.
zorin was ok but puked on my windows virtual machine inside zorin, then went to bazzite, same issues, then I went to nobara and it's been great! I love using Linux Vs Windows or Mac
dang only +59 votes on GAW for this, we gotta pump up those numbers
Microsoft has been opposed for decades for good reasons, with AI and Linux, I hope they disappear
haven’t got Linux on my old Windows computer yet, but I looked up running Corel Word using Wine on Linux, should be great
This would be a nice headline:
Windows 10 wasn't bad, but wow... Windows 11 sucks. Video refresh issues, slow performance, etc.
Me and my wife are riding w10 until we're upgrade our pcs. Then we're going straight to linux!
