If you can save $1 trillion a year on NATO and eliminate most of the daycare, SNAP, Medicare and other welfare fraud, then we should only pay half or less on income taxes we are paying now. No taxes is even better.
The number listed there, $968B, is the entire military budget of the US. It isn't how much we spend on NATO - it is how much we spend on the military in total.
So unless you think eliminating the military altogether is a good idea, I wouldn't go trying to cut $1 trillion out of its budget.
NATO flatly failed the USA in our greatest time of need, when they sat on their hands watching the "Russian collusion" coup unfold- knowing full well that a British (NATO). spy was involved with the coup! They did not lift a finger to even try to help stop the overthrow of America! NATO is a worthless liability to the USA. With "allies" like that, who needs enemies?

Which brings other facts that may be unknown to me to be false. Also the likelihood that much of the quality of the article to be the work of others more talented.
I would rather get my info and analysis from the original source and one with a knowledge of basic truths.
It saves me time when someone self exposes themselves as sub par. I have certain rules I abide by to keep me from foolery. And being unaware of rudimentary info is one. It has nothing to do with a clean child post bathing.
Let's be fair here. NATO would happily "help" the U.S. if we had an authoritarian regime take over the White House (Looking at you HRC) and that regime requested NATO troops to patrol city streets and to crack open heads to keep the order.
I have no doubt that NATO would be Johnny on the spot for that kind of "help".
I pay plenty in taxes. But I want and expect somethings. If they eliminate debt spending, I will continue to accept what I now pay. I really like the fact I can drive coast to coast with very little hassle.

NATO was unnecessary as soon as Reagan ordered the Berlin Wall be torn down (1987) and Germany reunified (1989-91). Since then it has had no legitimate function (CORRUPTION).
Not how it really works. And it has evolved. First it was the US protecting them. Then it was them providing extra deterrence from the USSR from attacking the US. Now, the only thing that we need from them is the basing. If we weren’t in NATO, would we spend less? No, we wouldn’t. We would probably be spending more. Plus, they buy more of our stuff because we are in NATO and need some standardization.
