I can't say how much coverage back then compared to now, but I saw it some bc I wondered why we weren't helping. Biggest goal at that time was defeat of the USSR and Reagan got it done. Then the US just walked away. I expected we'd at least offer guidance, idk, SOMETHING to help them more easily transfer from communism back to capitalism, but no. If USA did, I am unaware of it.
I was, at that time, very hopeful that the collapse of USSR and rise of even quasi capitalism there would result in alliance between us. I've never understood the constant bashing of Russia and its people.
