Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

BREAKING NEWS NASA revises plans for future Artemis missions, cancels upgrades to SLS
NASA has revised its plans for future Artemis missions. NASA announced Friday it will fly a new mission, designated Artemis 3, to dock with lunar landers from Blue Origin and/or SpaceX in low Earth orbit in 2027. The first crewed landing attempt on the moon is now planned for Artemis 4 in early 2028, with a possible second landing on Artemis 5 in late 2028. As part of those changes, NASA said it is abandoning plans to upgrade the Space Launch System after Artemis 3. —Jeff Foust

CAL DOGE has claimed nearly $1 billion was taken from a California solar panel program and funneled into Democratic voter registration and activism.
The report, out Thursday, argues $928 million from gas tax and electric bills intended for solar panels for apartment buildings went to the leftist groups.
SOMAH, which stands for Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing, was created by AB 693 in 2015. Since then it has been funded for up to $100 million every year using “cap and trade auctions proceeds.”
I hope that once the Swamp is drained, Trump's team works to preserve online anonymity.
It's already ending in California, as its law goes into effect on January 1, 2028--possibly 2027.
Thats why I am glad that he managed to include the privacy clause in the Genius Act.
That thing about crypto from seven months ago? You think it applies to anonymity in general?
I sure hope you're right.
It applies to financial system. You would be able to own US treasuries, without any banks or intermediaries making all the money, without being able to be tracked.
As for anonymity on the Internet, if thats what you mean, it depends a LOT on what each person does, rather than the regulation.
If you are privacy conscious, get rid of social media account you have. Install an open source OS on your computers and mobile devices. Setup a local cloud and dont use any cloud accounts. Turn off all AI helpers/assistants, and run your AI locally on your own hardware.
Its a LOT of work, and depending on how much heavy lifting you are willing to do, you can make yourself that much anonymous.
Somehow, they wasted money and could have directly asked a genuine cat lover:

A research into cat behavior shows that domestic cats regard humans as social peers rather than superiors, often perceiving their owners as large, awkward kittens.
Far from being aloof or defiant, a cat’s apparent indifference stems from a profound interspecies mismatch in social expectations.
As anthrozoologist John Bradshaw explains, cats—unlike dogs—never evolved to recognize humans as dominant leaders or authority figures. Instead, they filter all interactions through an exclusively feline framework. Behaviors like kneading on your lap or licking your hair are not mere displays of affection; they are the same grooming and bonding rituals cats reserve for close kin or pride members. In their eyes, we are simply enormous, somewhat clumsy fellow cats who require inclusion in the group.
This absence of hierarchical deference accounts for cats’ frequent disregard of commands or household rules. Treating us as equals, they follow cat-to-cat social protocols in every encounter. The “gifts” of dead prey on the doorstep or constant shadowing around the home are acts of care toward what they see as a big, furless, rather inept companion.
Recognizing this mindset transforms the human-cat relationship from one based on authority and obedience to one of mutual companionship. It turns out that while many owners believe they have domesticated their cats, the cats themselves are quietly convinced they are patiently tending to their oversized, adopted family members.

I do believe God has blessed us, my frens.
Pakistan and the Taliban going at it was honestly not on the Bingo Card.
Should be interesting considering the Taliban don’t have an Airforce to speak of. So if the Pakistanis somehow fuck that up it’ll be amusing

Thomas Edison once said: "I have not failed. I've just found ten thousand ways that won't work."
Edison also was wrong on DC vs AC. It's OK to be wrong, but he never admitted that Tesla was the greatest innovator. He even failed to pay him for his inventions that Tesla generated for him, so ultimately Tesla left Edison. Ultimately he was taken under the wing of Westinghouse. When Westinghouse got into financial trouble later in life, Tesla refuse his patent royalties associated with Westinghouse products.
Tesla was also the genius who wanted to provide free energy to mankind, but was eventually unfunded by JP Morgan when 'FREE' entered the equation. When someone asked Einstein how it felt to be the smartest man alive he responded... I don't know, go ask Tesla.
Well worth digging into Tesla, as did Trumps Uncle John who was a Professor at MIT. Tesla is SO MUCH MORE that a car built by Musk
