Yes, that IS the actual title of the movie, and it is phenomenal!
Sorry about the YT link, but here is the trailer for you to check out.
It's a beautifully done movie about the friendship between George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin and how the First Great Awakening began in the American Colonies. The production values are top notch as are all of the actors - this is not a Hallmark movie or a mid budget Christian flick. This is a quality historical film that addresses the role of God in our lives and national character.
I brought a based conservative friend with me to a matinee showing of this yesterday on a whim, with no clue what to expect. We both loved it. The theater was half full and you could feel how powerfully everyone was affected by the film (bring tissues, trust me on this). And best of all, it ends on an inspirational for Christians and American patriots.
It looks like A Great Awakening will only be in theaters this week. I hope they choose to expand that, but either way, I cannot recommend this film enough. Make time to see it and bring your friends along.
HAPPY EASTER! He is RISEN! ❤️
P.S. Mods, can I shamelessly ask for a sticky on this? I'd love to make this movie into a big thing because it deserves it.
I saw the trailer and am looking forward to seeing it.
We are as well!
historical! the 1st Great Awakening
I am looking for where and when in The central Texas area. Thank you, as I have mostly given up on movies years ago. I look forward to the edification of real heroes rather than fake ones.
The fact that this is coming out now is no coincidence
“What’s this ‘coincidence’ thing you speak of?”
Agreed.
Saw it this afternoon. Extremely powerful with a great tie in to America's founding. From a non-historian point of view, I found the history fully plausible, managing to link in a number of interesting characters.
My friend had the same take as you. She isn't a historian, but she was engrossed and never lost the plot. One of the first things she said when the movie was over was how she wants to delve into that particular event and era to learn more about it.
Sight and Sound is based and great to see a live show there if you can.
I watched Greg Laurie interview Joshua Enck and Jonathan Blair—creators and star of the new film and it looks like my kind of movie. I hope it goes on Amazon Prime soon because I am excited to watch it.
Ty bigly, fren!
Would older children (8-12) be able to watch it appropriately?
Maybe. While there is no salacious content and interactions and language are G-rated, there is some content that might be inappropriate:
-Depiction of cruelty towards children (Whitefield's childhood and the coal mine he visits)
-Ben is shown visiting the theater with his mistress (nothing more than her hand on his knee, but it's explicitly stated in the next scene who she is to Benjamin)
I think a mature child could handle it. I'll leave that up to you. I hope that helps!
Thanks, I’ll check it out!
Just got back from Project Hail Mary and it was excellent. Albeit, a little unrealistic, but still a good way to spend a Sunday evening with the wife.
Don’t take me wrong but the LGBTQ flag on their theatre while promoting a show called Joseph (related to a biblical story) makes me feel at least awkward: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sight_%26_Sound_Theatres
While it looks like multicolored stripes to me it doesn't look like the LGBXYZ-BS.
The Bible says that Joseph's father gave him a multicolored coat to show his favoritism towards him (perhaps perpetuating his brothers' selling him into slavery which positioned Joseph to ultimately do God's work). Every time we see colored stripes we can't equate that with deviancy. The beasts want this, wanted to destroy the rainbow initially and inject their hypersexual indoctrination into the school system.
In short these stripes don't look like they're in that category, to my eye, at least.
I agree with your take on this, the banner is for Joseph, it has nothing to do with the other flag.
