He used to be in the same party as Viktor Orbán (the former PM for 16 yeras) until 2024 when he joined the "Respect and Freedom Party" (TISZA), which is reportedly centre / centre-right pro-Euro populist. They just ran on a platform of "not being Orbán" and not engaging with culture war issues. That seemed to be enough for voters.
Interestingly, he ran an informal questionnaire in 2025, asking questions about reducing taxes, along with limiting the PM office to two terms (8 years), and salary cap. Over a million people agreed with these proposed changes.
Orbán himself said that TISZA was going to be an EU-puppet, and pointed to Russian intel as proof.
One starts to wonder if Orbán just wanted out (EU leaders made his life hell) and picked his successor LOL
