While the production and import of new R-22 have been banned since 2020, roughly 67% of surveyed commercial grocery retailers still use older HCFC and HFC systems. Stores can legally maintain these units using reclaimed, recycled, or stockpiled R-22, though the rising costs of this supply are forcing an industry transition.
Trump is stopping the transition. And likely making R22 cheaper to get.
Sounds like R22 followed in the footsteps of Halon (new production banned in 1994). I was always a little worried about a Halon drop when I worked at NORAD administering the WWMCCS warplan machines. Lots of old servers in that HUGE room, and at least half of the subfloor was stuffed full of cables that may have been from older versions that they left in place. I was there in the early 90s.
Glad to hear it. I had bad experiences with the new refrigerators since they all had to switch over to the new gas (I think it's a butane?). Anyways, the refrigerator tech that was helping us said the whole refrigeration industry had to switch over and most new refrigerators were in the beginning stages of product development (a.k.a. a lot of new, shittier products).
Ironically all the carbon credits it would take to manufacture, transport, repair and dispose the new broken stuff is probably substantially more than maintaining an older but more mature system. Common sense be damned.
R1234yf is a hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant. HFO refrigerants are composed of hydrogen, fluorine and carbon atoms.
Not Butane, bit it IS FLAMMABLE.
Coincidently, patent has expired on R134 which it replaces.
Old R-12 air conditioning systems was a great refrigerant, but R-12 (dichlorodifluoromethane) was banned in 1996 due to CFC's causing ozone depletion.
The ozone layer is steadily recovering, primarily thanks to global bans on ozone-depleting chemicals (like CFCs). Scientists from NASA and NOAA confirm that the ozone hole is shrinking and on track for a long-term recovery. Ozone layer should be fine by 2040, they say.
OK... now we've established that the Ozone layer heals itself very well. Let's bring back the old R-12 air conditioning refrigerant again. The rest of the world is still using it... and apparently the Ozone layer is keeping up.
🚨 JUST IN: President Trump is formally TERMINATING the Biden admin's insane regulations on fridges and air conditioners that makes them more costly for Americans
AFFORDABILITY WIN 👏🏻
"This will protect hundreds of thousands of jobs and save Americans well over $2 BILLION a year by officially terminating the Biden administration's ridiculous regulations imposing costly requirements on refrigerators and air conditioners. It's ridiculous, unnecessary and costly and actually makes the machinery worse!"
Now do water heaters. Then again, it may be they're so pricey around here due to the stupid climate legislation. Recently paid $500 for a 30 gal water heater. Then installation was about that much more. :-/
Bring back R22.
You spelled "R12" wrong....
Got this sucker shooting out ice & cold enough to hang meat!
Yep each new refrigerant they roll out seems to run at higher pressure (more leak prone) and lower efficiency
The new micro- channel coils can't take the pressure . The failure rate is insane.

My jaw was hanging the whole time that I walked around the facility in the late 70s.
Bring back R12 it was better.
Somehow this is tied back to the insane global warming myth.

Nobody has shown me how a molecule 200 times denser than air gets into the stratosphere 😂
It must be farting cows.
Now do gas stoves

No do underpowered appliances that only last a few years.
Now do water heaters. Then again, it may be they're so pricey around here due to the stupid climate legislation. Recently paid $500 for a 30 gal water heater. Then installation was about that much more. :-/
$500 is not bad as that was about what it cost years ago. But yes the labor costs have tripled since a few years ago so that is the issue.
I got a quote for $4000 for 50 gallons all-in lmao
Please bring back over the counter refrigerant purchases! Currently need an EPA cert to buy it and go through ozone brainwashing bootcamp
Good. Now do incandescent lightbulbs.
