Spielberg is overrated as a director. Look at his filmography and check out the number of bombs. I can name 10 American born directors who made movies in the same time as Spielberg did that have a better overall body of work.

But wait, let's be fair. Spielberg gave us SCHINDLER'S LIST- Masterpiece of deceptive propaganda.
I'm not trying to defend Spielberg, he may indeed be a black hat, but no one can deny he's been involved in several great hits. Jaws, ET, Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and a couple more. Although he mostly directs and doesn't write as much other other people. Like Christopher Nolan is my favorite. Which directors do you think are the top 3 for their overall work?
First, only two of the Indiana Jones movies were any good. The first and the third. While he had a good start, movies like 1941, The Color Purple, Hook, AI, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, and I can name more show he’s just a passable director who can always get a big budget, but can’t be consistent in good storytelling. To me, special effects are nothing if you can’t back it up with good storytelling.
My top 3: Robert Zaemekis, a Spielberg protege who remains underrated but has an impressive body of work. Mel Gibson, his work solely as a director has been impressive and Apocalypto is one of my all time favorites. Michael Mann, he made films for decades but always years apart. Every one I have seen has been a gem, though they are slowly paced. Honorable Mention: Quentin Tarantino.
Nice to see a shout-out to Mel Gibson's Apocolypto. It is a ridiculously underrated movie.
I watched it earlier this month and watched it purposely without subtitles. I actually enjoyed it more that way.
