In the event of a global DNS outage, accessing websites becomes challenging, but it's possible to visit sites if you know their IP addresses by entering them directly into your browser. However, this method has limitations; websites often use dynamic IP addresses that can change, and accessing a site by IP might not work if it's behind a load balancer or CDN like Cloudflare, which X (formerly Twitter) uses. X's IP addresses have reportedly transitioned from 104.244.40.0/21 to 162.158.0.0/15, but these can be subject to change. Additionally, accessing sites by IP might bypass security checks or lead to certificate issues, making this a temporary workaround rather than a comprehensive solution for internet browsing during DNS outages.

Just started having massive issues with DNS resolution. Some sites were working fine, most were not. I seem to be able to get back on to everything now, about 7 minutes later. Anyone else having issues tonight? Storm inbound?

I know, using Google's services, but I've been using 8.8.8.8 as an upstream DNS server for my home Bind server, and after looking into why my DNS was slowing to a crawl in the last hour, I found out that Google's DNS had a 5 second ping time, which is really really strange.

Just want people's thoughts on this, and if it's a habbening or not.

Aside from potentially pragmatic reasons that are rather evident, has anyone seen any downloadable global IP to hostnames map database or flat file archives?

Yes, it would be large and by some standards enormous, but a compressed archive would make it reasonable.

There are various DNS history sites, so some form of this is already being done, but it seems as though there should be an open sourced project for this since this kind of information and history is invaluable for research and other things as well.

I am in Connecticut and use Comcast internet. This morning all DNS was down .... could not connect to any websites or email server. I WAS able to connect to any site I had the direct ip address for! Example: Jimstone at 82.221.129.208 came right up. I could not get to GAW due to the Cloudfare connection. I turned on my TV and the older 'dumb' TV came up with the last channel I was watching .... Travel Channel but I could not change channels due to the 'Guide' being a web page .... got error message 'check your internet connection'. The new 'Smart' TV would not work at all. All has cleared up now and DNS is once again working.

I do not think this is my internet, as I have never encountered this. But in the past two hours I keep getting DNS errors randomly. Such as ga.win giving me it until I refresh a lot. Is this to do with the weird DNS stuff going around? Lol I'd be kinda annoyed if I could'nt get on ga.win. (Edit) The error is DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN. On google chrome PC.

Go grab https://hexchat.github.io/ (an irc client) and install it.

Save this list to a text file.

To connect to a server, fire up hexchat and type:

/server ipaddress

ipaddress is one of the IP's in the list below. This way you can still chat to people if there's a wider outage.

Not saying this is anything, but maybe someone else on here will see this and have a lightbulb moment...

All 3 DNS records for Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram were updated on Sep 22.

I am sure there are others. This could be just a simple Zuckerberg and Co. had something they changed/updated on that date for the entire FB empire, but I find a massive outage a few days (12) later to be really strange.

I do not have a whois premium account so I am unable to dig much further than this. Anything interesting happen on Sep 22?
