I used to be on air on radio. We were a small station in a small building in the country. Our satellite dishes were nearly the size of the building. When we gave our news segments during our shift we pulled AP and other news outlets' reports from the newsfeed printers. Every station, radio and TV, received the same limited new releases and read the same info on air. It seemed so strange at the time to listen to someone else reading the exact story I'd read verbatim. I was naive at the time. Now I barely know what MSM is saying because I know their spiel.
Not to sound backwards or anything, but I am evermore glad I did not have access to cable or satellite TV most of my adult life. It was both unnecessary expenditure and I felt the programming was not worth renting free space in my head. I did pick up many current events vicariously so I wasn't completely out of touch. Now I understand why I didn't necessarily fit in with the "popular" crowd since I didn't participate in their small talk and chats about politics, religion, celebrities, or sports. You know what? The way this ol' world is heading, I appreciate my differentness.
Good job, Momma. You're so blessed. They love to be a "helper". I also focus more on the idea that THEY accomplish a task and learned something new. I discuss how they just built upon something they already knew, and learning is so fun, than on the "helper" part. Keep up your enthusiasm. You have the most important job in your child's world.
It was fair to have expectations for things to be honorable and trustworthy. We want to delight our children and are basically promised that places like Disney have integrity and are helping create wonderful family memories. We now need to discern more and research venues before giving them our hard earned dollars and our precious children.
No worries here. I usually end up neither owing nor receiving a refund. I was taught when I was young that is the ultimate tax goal and I legitimately worked toward that end.
