The average height above sea level of the Kwajalein Atoll is 1.8 meters (6 ft), so any significant sea wave will just wash over it. Similar problems on the north coast of the Hawaiian island of Kuai'i, causing the locals to build their houses on stilts at least head-high. Look up the statistics on sea states if you want "odds" of this happening. (The thing about "odds" is that it indicates a certainty of this happening, but not all the time.)
Most everything military on Kwaj are high-power radars for tracking of space and ballistic objects. They look upwards when operating. The warning is consistent with averting aircraft from the airspace through which these radars could be operating, to avoid microwave radiation. (That would be the correct term to use. Radars are notorious for this being a hazard. It could disable aircraft electronics.)
Except that the "guidestones" were blown up by a satchel charge. I'm fine with God's handiwork, however.
"Sign of the Times": Some of my neighbors along nearby lakefront property had taken to displaying Ukrainian flags from the beginning of the war. For the past 3 months, they have either been taken down or remain only as weather-beaten tatters.
And Zelensky has transformed from admired crusader to annoying whiner and moocher.
The "Georgia guidestones" were private property, insofar as any vandals might be concerned. They were out of the way in an obscure part of the country and likely were unknown before their destruction. They were meaningless. Their destruction was not only criminal, but useless.
Those who think ANYTHING "needs to be taken out" are treading the path of totalitarianism, no different than the Taliban in their destruction of historic religious monuments, or the Nazis in their obliteration of "non-Aryan" published works. For which there is no end. We grind up all of history that does not conform to our mental filter, and burn books that offend us. Do we even tear out of the Bible the phrases quoted from Satan? This is the thinking of people who have no faith in the protection of Baptism or of the Holy Spirit.
The "kindlifresser" fountain. Nobody knows what meaning this implies, if it has any meaning other than a boogyman. A handful of theories, none more convincing than the others. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kindlifresserbrunnen
Of course. It is overdue.
You are going all over the place, so there is not much I can reply to. I appreciate that they committed a federal crime and would be happy as a clam to see them behind bars on account of it. Your reference therefore has no application to me.
You have no idea what, if anything, was on the scuttled tapes. It could all be innocuous testimony, going nowhere, proving nothing. I'm not even saying that is so---but I am saying that even a nothingburger would be deadly to their narrative and they would suppress it. In fact, the more I think about it, the more likely it seems to me that it would be so.
I'm defending nothing. You are playing with fantasy figures in your head. But go ahead, bay at the Moon, and get totally cranked out of shape if these tapes do not reveal your fondest wishes.
You evidently did not understand my point. If they contained nothing, there would be nothing to support their narrative...and that would NOT be a good thing for them to reveal.
Also, think carefully: I am NOT saying there is nothing there. I am just pointing out that if there is nothing, it does not mean there was something.
Evidently not Mr. "Mutti2." Thanks for backing me up.
Nah. Nothing suspicious. The color values are off, and that could be because the camera color contrast is poor, the lighting is too grey (overcast), or the flag is faded from exposure. Sunlight will fade colors, especially blue and yellow. This can be seen all the time in storefront displays, where color posters have been on display for a long time and have become sun-bleached.
Damn, I need to wear my glasses. When I first glanced at the headline, I thought it read "Soros dead as frigid conditions ravage US." I won't say my heart did a flip, but I did feel a tingle.
Speculation on "What did the files contain?" You have to realize that the files could have contained "nothing." No cause celebre. No casus belli. Just a big, long nothingburger. That would be damning to the Democrat narrative ("What? It was a big nothing?") and would merit being obscured on that account alone.
No. I saw the video. In order to obtain an angle that would connect with her upper body (since she was climbing up to go through a window), the resulting shot would have been toward the ceiling, above the heads of those crowding the hallway. He was behind a door frame to the left of the hallway beyond the partition door and would have had no view of most of those gathered. Maybe not dead initially, but it doesn't take long to die from a mortal wound (a matter of seconds).
That's absurd. I guess you can't tell the difference between someone who is effective and someone who is ineffective. Plus, I never vote for Democrats and never have. So much for your accurate view of the world. Or do you have a secret admiration for Bob Dole? Let us know. Explain it if you can.
And why would you trust what you "experience"? Plenty of courtroom evidence that not all eyewitnesses are infallible. I never heard the Mount St. Helens eruption, either. Does that mean it didn't happen?
At least pay attention to your own prejudice in the matter. How does something sound "too contrived"? You are simply assuming the person making the report is a liar, without any evidence.
Some day, take the time to look over the photos and videos of the forests of fresh Ukrainian graves marked by national flags. No death is "contrived."
Ukraine has long practiced the habit of concocting bogus videos and staging hoaxes. (The late Gonzalo Lira identified 3 such hoax videos.) When they get called out, they just move on to the next one.
Good point about agency. I see too many of us denigrating our opposition, probably out of a desire to bolster our own "superiority." As though name-calling was effective against them.
You can ask that question of someone else and get an answer. No candidate was "entertaining." Dole was going to be a do-nothing, just like an armchair. To borrow a phrase used often around here, "expand your mind."
Very apt.
I will not bother to spit even for a Bush, but it is a mistake to rate GW Bush as a "retard." When he was in the Air National Guard, he flew an F-102, a delta-winged single-engine supersonic interceptor. Not for the mentally impaired or faint of heart, since the glide slope was not very good, the landing angle was high, and if the engine flamed out, you had seconds to figure out what to do next. (One of my managers was a former F-102 pilot.)
Dole exemplified the adage, "All that evil needs to triumph, is for good men to do nothing." It would be like voting for an armchair. I can't remember if I even voted in that election.
Don't be an idiot. How would I know unless you answer the question? Don't bother, then, since you think you have to ask that question. (What would a "yes" answer mean to you? You would have no idea if it was the truth or a lie.) You have a problem dealing with reality; you expect it to be a disguise for ulterior motives.
I must disagree. Once earned---and taxes paid---one's money should not be taxed further, for any reason. All the problems you cited (freeloading, etc.) can be addressed directly.
I have a personal stake. I am a U.S. citizen born and raised, a lifelong employed person, and now retired. But I have family members in Zambia who need financial support (the economy of Zambia is not the healthiest). It's my money that I have earned honestly and paid taxes on, and I have a right to use it as I desire. It is no different from purchasing any foreign good or service: money outflow to people who will accept it for trade. My own bank is now monitoring my ATM withdrawals to prevent me from withdrawing any sum that it deems "unusual." Western Union requires their wire transfer agents to periodically inquire as to the purpose of my transfers (cautious of money laundering). Frankly, my emotional reaction to all this is to tell them to fuck themselves with a sharpened rowel spur, but I don't say anything.
Certain qualifying conditions may justify such a measure (e.g., remittance disallowal or limitation on those who are legally on the dole), but do not toy with making it universal, or we will erode our own liberty out of a desire to punish malefactors. Did not the Patriot Act teach us anything?
Evidence? If you know something, tell me from what source you know. You simply haven't been doing that. And you certainly have no power to look inside her mind.
How do you prove that her apology was not bona fide? You've already danced down a stairway of deduction fueled by your suppositions about what she knew or didn't know, with no room for her error or inattention.
I would not recommend you to be empaneled as a juror.
I knew of Brand only from references to him on this site, but was pleasantly surprised to see him acting in the role of Dr. Windlesham in the 2022 production of "Death on the Nile." Not a major character, but memorable.
