China has a birth rate at nearly 1.0. The one child policy reduced births, but also resulted in fewer female births as families wanted males.
Long story short... China is looking at an aging population, and fewer young workers available.
They aren't about to allow immigration by healthy younger workers.
When I read this, it sounded too contrived. And it made me wonder... would the WH's really allow the killing of a generation of Ukrainian men if they were in control?

I think you are conflating control with complete control. The WH control the end game we believe but evil still has moves on the board to exhaust before the "game" ends in checkmate. That outcomes evil can cause may be mitigated to some degree if the WH can help but I am sure at times they can't.

I have a Ukrainian co-worker, early 30s, very much military age. I speak with him once or twice a week on Zoom. He reports semi-frequent air raid sirens, and sometimes explosions off in the distance, but he says otherwise his life goes on as normal. Still walks his dog, still goes out with friends, still takes vacations.
This is what Trump meant when he said it was most important to negotiate for people to stop dying. What a terrible situation to hear about…
There are wars worth fighting, but the one in Ukraine seems to mostly be about protecting some government officials from losing their jobs to government officials in Russia. I haven’t heard any arguments for Ukraine offering it’s citizens a better life than what Russia would have gave them, only that people hate Russia.
I’m not the best informed on this sort of thing though, I’d be curious (and comforted) to know if anyone knows at some reasons the war would have been “worth it” to the citizens to risk taking on.
I thought at the beginning it is insane for Ukraine to fight a war against Russia. Just like it was insane for Hamas to attack Israel. It wasn't the real Ukrainian or Palestinian people who attacked the far stronger countries. It was play actors paid by the usual suspects, trying to start a world war.

Not sure what part she visited but I was there 3 months ago with my wife to visit her parents (second visit since the war started). By no means do I support what is going on either. Anyhow, what she said for the most part seems like the furthest thing from what I witnessed. Men are everywhere, in fact my wife's dad has been trying to volunteer since day 1 and they have told him they don't need him yet, same for a friend of mine that we visited in Dnipro. Ukrainians are of course tired of the war but most would rather die than go under Russian occupation, especially the older generation that remembes what it was like in the USSR. As far as Zelenskyy, most Ukrainians have nothing but respect for him other than those that are for Russia. She didn't even spell his name correctly, seems more like a Russian plant to me. As I said above, I am not for the war or Zelenskyy, however I believe the Ukrainian people are caught in the middle of a chess game between higher powers and make no mistake, Putin is not the good guy. The Ukranian people are just are pawns in a bigger game. If it were to be American, do you think us Patriots would roll over and give up or fight for freedom?
