Russia fully conquered Ukraine in the late 1600’s where they basically ruled into the Soviet Union days. While separatist factions on both sides dueled and there has always been conflict, When the USSR dissolved, Ukraine became and independent country pretty much for the first time, with US-NATO backing to get a foothold over there. If I was Putin, I would invade it too and get US-NATO corruption the hell off my border.
